This oddly and impressively shaped building was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, one of America's most inventive architects. The long spiral stairway leading to the dome inside will lead you past works from artists of the 19th and 20th century including Brancusi, Braque, Calder, Chagall, Robert Delaunay, Giacometti, Kandinsky, Klee, Leger, Miro, Picasso, and Van Gogh.
The Guggenheim is located on the section of Fifth avenue called Museum Mile. Plan to spend a good portion of the day exploring this labyrinthine museum, and avoid going on weekends if possible.
