Discover Los Roques Archipelago Venezuela

archipelago archipelagoFurther west, off the coast of Caracas, the Los Roques Archipelago is made up of little sandy islands, flat and dry, and magnificent coral atolls. The depths of the sea are home to an incredible amount of exotic fish. The Los Roques cayos, particularly La Tortuga and La Orchila islands, are "must sees" for diving. Less visited than the east coast, the west coast is also very pretty with its rainforest, mangroves and sand dunes. There you can visit the Henri-Pittier national park, the lovely port of Puerto Colombia, and relax on the beaches of Playa Grande and Playa Escondida. The region also offers fantastic diving sites such as Chichirviche de la Costa, Larga and Sapo islands off the coast of Puerto Cabello, and Morrocoy national park.

The entire archipelago is a protected National Park due to its particularly rich ecosystem. The island of Gran Roque is the only one in the archipelago that is inhabited year round.
