Discover The Andes Venezuela

Located to the west of Venezuela, the Merida Sierra Nevada is the highest region - with its mountains topped by eternal snows, especially the Pico Bolivar peaking at 16426 ft. In Merida, don't miss the vertiginous cable car that climbs to the top of Pico Espejo, at 15663 ft. From Caracas, you can reach Merida by plane, or equally by road by taking the Transandina, wiggling through the Sierra Nevada National Park. Stop to sleep over at the hotel found at the heart of the ancient monestary at Los Frailes, from where you can go horseback riding. The park houses various magnificent lakes including Laguna Negra and Laguna Los Patos. In the region, the villages of Apartaderos, and Mucuchies can be visited along with the old hacienda of Escaguey - beautifully restored and near Mucuruba.
