Weather Forecast in Australia

Natural disasters are a seasonal feature here; with tropical cyclones, flash flooding, dust storms and forest fires being an annual occurence. New South Wales suffered huge fires in summer 2013. Check with local state authorities for the latest bushfire information.

As Australia is in the southern hemisphere, the seasons are reversed. The country can be divided into two climatic zones: a tropical climate in the north, and a temperate climate in the south and to the east. From November to March, it is hot in the south (Sydney/26C, Perth/30C) and wet in the north. From April to September, the good weather is mostly in the north, where it is the best season (Darwin/33C); and it is more humid and cool in the south. If you travel on both sides of the tropics during your stay, try and go in Spring (September-November) and Autumn (March-May), which will also allow you to avoid the Australian holidays, when the prices increase. Due to heavy rain, make every effort to avoid the north (Darwin and Cairns), from December to March.
Average max/min temperatures (in C) at Hobart (Tasmania): January 22/12, April 17/9, July 11/4, October 17/8.
