Weather Forecast in Mongolia

The Mongolian climate is a serious handicap and July and August are really the only two months favourable for a holiday. In Ulan Bator, in January, temperatures drop to - 25C - 30C, but in summer you can expect an average 16C during the day. The long-lasting winter settles in from early October all over the country and sometimes there is still snow in the Gobi desert as late as April. It is a dry and cold weather, often windy. In the icy regions of the Khangai mountains (province of Zavkhan), the average temperature is - 32C, in January. At the same time on the Altai, the Uvs region sees temperatures drop to an average - 42C, whereas in summer temperatures easily go over 30C. The rain season, from mid-July to September, isn't really a drawback, less than the scorching temperatures (40C) of some of the steppe areas.
