Historical dates

700 BC, Kingdom of Saba.
1839, Aden occupied by the English.
1952, Republic of Northen Yemen declared.
1970, Marxist republic of Southern Yemen declared.
May 1990, reunification.
Since May 1990, presidency has been held by Field Marshall Ali Abdallah Salih. Abd al-Qadir Ba Jamal has been Prime Minister since April 2001.
