The Southern Palms Beach Resort is located 22 miles away from downtown Mombasa. It is 28 miles away from the airport. However, it takes about an hour and a half to get there, according to the schedule of the ferry, since the hotel is situated on the southern coast of the country. If there is a lot of traffic, it is possible to spend more time to reach the hotel.

The hotel is located on the southern coast of Mombasa. You should therefore take the Likony Ferry to reach it. The journey takes about ten minutes, but it is very popular. This is the only way to travel in the south of Mombasa. The crossing costs £2.7 per vehicle.
Remember that it is forbidden to bathe or sunbathe in a monokini on the beaches of Kenya, and you are not allowed to collect shellfish. For fans of shopping, the hotel has a shop: the Sawadi Boutique. In addition, the hotel is close to many stores and several restaurants.
The hotel offers stage performances with different themes every night and entertainment shows throughout the day. It is possible, for example, to attend the aquagym class in the pool!
For families, the hotel has a club for children aged from 4 to 12 years that welcomes them from 10.00am to 6.00pm every day.

14/20 Hotel Overview

Built in 1992 and renovated in 2004, the Southern Palms Beach Resort offers a spacious lobby open onto the outside and covered with a bee balm roof (a local wood). Large orange columns give way to a lobby decorated in mosaics. The white tiled flooring emphasizes the light. Charming low chairs in oriental style, which are tapestried in blue cloth, are arranged on both sides of the reception. The ambience is punctuated by the water flowing down from a fountain surrounded by beautiful small pools.
After crossing the main bar and the dining room, you will discover a huge pool with round shapes which zigzags through various small bars and restaurants of the hotel. The architecture, dominated by the oriental style of these buildings, blends perfectly with the decoration. The wooden deckchairs and sunshades are placed in every little corner by the pool. Towels are available to customers for free. This space where where the life of the hotel is concentrated can sometimes be a little noisy. The hotel also has another swimming pool filled up with saltwater.

The eight blocks gathering all rooms are surrounded by 12 acres of garden. The hotel has 300 rooms. However, they are not very spacious. Yet, couples with children can accommodate a child. The room has a double bed with canopy accompanied by a sofa that can serve as a second bed. The colours of the room are predominantly blue and yellow, the bedspread matches harmoniously with the curtains and the lampshades.
There is not even ? television or ? mini-bar, however, all rooms are provided with amenities such as a safe (paying), air conditioning and direct telephone line for international calls. They also have small balconies furnished with a table and two chairs. A room-service is available 24/7.
The bathroom is a little disappointing. It offers little space. There is neither a hair dryer, nor bathrobes. However, there is a soap dispenser! Most bathrooms are equipped with a bath but some also have a shower.

The main restaurant of the hotel is a large space for 450 seats. Inspired by the Swahili style, the place is decorated with a huge mosaic arranged centrally on the ground. The restaurant operates buffet-style for all three daily meals. The cuisine is international, the courses change every day. Circular in shape, the numerous tables are decorated with red and white tablecloths. A lunch here costs 1,200 ksh.
The Southern Palms Beach Resort also has three other restaurants. The Via Romana offers a menu of Italian specialties, open for dinner, while the Boriti Snack Restaurant offers customers light lunches. Finally, the Manyatta Barbeque Restaurant is certainly the most charming restaurant. Under an orange, oriental style roof, it lies just beside the pool. It has 150 seats.
There are also four bars inside the hotel. The main bar, between the reception and the main restaurant, is open 24/7. It is a very pleasant place to enjoy the sunset in one of the other bars: the Fountain Bar and the Beach Bar, located on the beach, are open from 10.00am to 8.00pm. The Lake Palace Bar and the Boriti Bar work until 11.30pm.

The Southern Palms Beach Resort is located beside one of the most beautiful beaches on the southern coast of Mombasa: Diani Beach. Wooden deckchairs, quite apart from each other, are protected from the sun with sunshades made of bee balm. Like most beaches in Kenya, the coral reef is not very far from the shore. It is therefore preferable for people with fragile feet to bathe with sandals. According to the weather forecasts, the beach can be invaded by algae. However, they are less littered in comparison to other beaches. Swimming presents no particular risk: the waves are gentle and the beach is not very windy. The sailing club is installed on the same place. It organizes big game fishing parties and boat rides for snorkelling. It also offers canoes and catamarans.
