Hotel Plaza Vouliagmeni

The tiny centre of Vouliagmeni is located about a ten-minute walk away. Athens is about 25 miles and Cape Sounio is 22 miles away. If you do not have a car, brace yourself for the long trip to Athens: by taxi (10.5 miles) to the tramway at Glyfada and then another one hour by tram, until finally you reach the centre of Athens.

It is difficult to understand the interest in this hotel. This facility is a strange mixture of urban hotel (with a lack of amenities and services), and a tourist hotel (with its proximity to the beach). But it turns out that the town is far and the beach too. Every evening, you have to check the weather forecast for the next day in your room. The beach towels are offered for free and to carry with you. 10 minutes away by foot, the temple of Apollo has free access.

The Plaza was renovated in 2004. The white façade with balconies of wood consists of 6 floors. The marble lobby lacks any kind of furniture and charm as the rest of the hotel. Real effort has gone into the services offered, but although the hotel is quite comfortable, it remains commonplace. The rooms are single, double or triple, an advantage for families. The restaurant area extending onto the terrace, has a beautiful panoramic view of the sea.

The hotel has 72 rooms, including 16 that communicate. They are clean and spacious, with fitted carpets and pleasant balconies. Amenities include a telephone, satellite television (pay per view television), air conditioning, slippers and a safe. The decoration is rather ordinary and all the furniture and colours are rather outdated but still welcoming. The bathrooms are equipped with a shower or a bathtub, a hair dryer, personal skin care products. All tiled, they are very clean.

Two restaurants are at your disposal. The main restaurant is open for breakfast (7 AM to 10:30 AM), lunch (12:30 PM to 3 PM and all day during summer) and dinner (7:30 PM to 1 AM). There is a delicious buffet in the morning and Greek and international cuisine served buffet style or from a fixed menu for lunch and dinner. A large terrace, very pleasant in summer, can accommodate up to 120 guests. The second restaurant has a menu focusing on Italian specialties, only at dinner. The tables are well appointed and, with the terrace, make a lovely combination. The bar is open all day until 2 AM.

There are various opprtunities to go to the beach but you have to walk a minimum of 5 minutes to get your feet in water. Two private beaches in the vicinity offer numerous amenities (beach chairs, sunshades, water sports equipment rentals...). These are beaches with corse sand, but they are quite wide and long. A natural lake, open all year round, is a 15-minute walk away from the hotel, in a nice setting where you can have a drink and bathe in naturally warm water. Remember that the hotel provides beach towels for its customers!
