Well locatedThe Avalon is a small hotel with an Art Deco ambience, perfectly suited to young people looking for a nice place to stay on Ocean Drive but not wanting to breaking the bank. This is definitely not a luxury hotel, but you will see that all the essentials are there nevertheless, with a good bed and spacious and clean guest rooms.
The Avalon hotel is located on Ocean Drive, facing the beach and the Atlantic Ocean. Restaurants, bars, night clubs and shops can all be found nearby. The area is a little noisy since it is Ocean Drive, but it is likely that you will have come here for the very special atmosphere of this district of Miami anyway. The airport is about 40 minutes away by taxi.
The Avalon dates from the 1940's, 1942 to be precise, and the old Buick parked in front of the hotel will make some guests nostalgic a golden age.
The Avalon is a small hotel on Ocean Drive, with no facilities, like a pool or a spa for example. Simple and effective, it has just guest rooms and a restaurant at the guests' disposal. The interior decoration is of course Art Deco, with a 'floral' chandelier and a large fan on the ceiling. There is a beautiful veranda which is perfect for a little sit-down while watching the liveliness of the street. The Art Deco spirit combined with a nautical style can also be seen with other of the hotel's features, such as its windows in the shape of portholes.
The 48 guest rooms are decorated in a fairly simple way, with little originality. They have blue carpet on the floor, quite cheap-looking furniture, pink curtains... to sum up, they look a little old-fashioned. The bedding, however, is of a high quality and the size of the beds is more than average. Round mirrors are reminders of the Art Deco spirit, combined with a nautical theme. All modern amenities can be found in the rooms: there is an iPod docking station, a television, air-conditioning, a safe, and even an iron. Guests are provided with a free bottle of water upon arrival. There is also a little desk area for you to use your computer. The bathrooms, which are small, have a bathtub, a bathrobe and a hairdryer. On the whole, even though the decor is a little outmoded, the guest rooms are clean and pleasant.
The hotel's only restaurant is quaint and offers breakfast, lunch and dinner. A few palm trees dotted here and there provide the room, which is actually situated within the lobby, with a little greenery and freshness. On the ceiling, you will see chandeliers with a floral motif. Both American and international dishes are served here, and seafood has pride of place. What is more, only local produce is used here. The terrace, sheltered under a veranda, will be your favourite place for dining al fresco. A bar area is concealed somewhere in the lobby.
