Discovering Paris at Christmas time

As the end-of-year festivities approach, you might find yourself in want of a bit of a scene change. Not far from the UK and easily accessible, Paris is the ideal place for doing just that, and for getting into the holiday spirit. The city becomes enchanting then, with a very special atmosphere for the end of the year. So here are various activities we have selected to ensure you make the very best of your time in the City of Lights.

Festive illuminations

During the festive season, Paris and its streets are adorned with all kinds of lights, which further highlights the city's irresitible charm. Head to the Champs Elysées to see the tradition lights that are put up every year and make the iconic avenue glow.

The big department stores like the Printemps, the BHV Marais and the Galeries Lafayette have been decorating their windows for Christmas for years, and their displays have become part of the city's must-see activities come the festive season.

Bercy Village, which actually looks like a village with cute bars and restaurants, is also decorated for the occasion and is a magical place to stroll around and have a drink.

Enjoy Christmas markets

There are several Christmas markets spread accross Paris during the festive season, but we particularly recommend the one located inside the Jardin des Tuileries, which is adjacent to the Louvre Museum. Another great market is the one in La Défense, just outside of the city, which also happens to be the largest market in greater Paris. The magical decorations are bound to amaze you, and it will also be an opportunity to taste French culinary specialities (we firmly recommend crêpes of course), and to warm up with some delicious French mulled wine.

Visit Disneyland

Disneyland Paris has been bringing tourists from all over the world to the capital city for 30 years. Everyone, young and old, will enjoy the magical atmosphere with different types of attractions, from those made specifically for children to those for thrill-seekers. The shows, the parades, and the characters walking around the park are a great way to escape from your everyday life. Magic is there throughout the year, but visiting the park during the festive season is one of the best times to do so. You will experience unforgettable holiday moments and get a true taste of that Disney magic. Be sure to book your tickets in advance on their website.
