The Berlin Hilton is one of the city's luxury establishments. It was built in 1990 and fully renovated in 2000, but small scale work is carried out every year to keep the place up to the standards expected of the brand. The focal point of the hall is the piano bar at the centre of the space. The reception counter has an impressive decorative detail: a glass top. A marble staircase leads up from the hall to the first floor. Also from the reception counter (small steps have been added so even children can see over the top), you can admire the statue of a horse. This space is furnished with a few armchairs covered in burgundy velvet and others decorated with arabesques. The Art Deco style of the chandeliers is another feature sure to catch the eye. This vast hall even has display windows where bags, jewellery and leather goods are on display, as well various little shops. One of them sells clothing by the Karl Lagerfeld brand, another sells Michalski, others sell souvenirs, necklaces and china and, last but not least, one is an office of the car hire company, Sixt. If you are staying in an executive room, you will receive a card during check-in allowing you free access to the executive lounge, which is close to the entrance on the ground floor. In here, you will find two meeting rooms that must be booked in advance, three computers with internet access, a daily newspaper service, big armchairs, and fruit, drinks and a few sandwich options at lunchtime. Near the smoking room on the first floor, you can even consider acquiring one of the works exhibited in the art gallery. It is also on this floor of the hotel that you will find the gym, which is open 24 hours a day and is equipped with 10 top-of-the-range exercise machines, two plasma-screen televisions, a rectangular indoor swimming pool, a sauna (charged) and a solarium. Don't worry if you have forgotten to bring your bathing suit, as you can get one at the entrance to the spa, where various choices are available, as well as a range of useful products to help you make the most of the facilities on offer. When staying at the Hilton, you can also call on the services of a hair stylist or visit the beauty salon. Also bear in mind that a nightclub managed by an external service provider opened here in 2010. Paris Hilton stayed in the hotel two years ago, bringing the place a bit of welcome publicity in the process.
