This two-star hotel belongs to the French chain Accor, and enjoys a good geographical location about 10 minutes on foot from Potsdamer Platz. It has a simple design and offers bright and comfortable guest rooms. Even though they are rather small, the establishment has thought up an ingenious way of transforming the double rooms into triples: by featuring a desk that can be converted into a bed. The Ibis Potsdamer Platz serves breakfast from early in the morning, starting at 4:00am, which is handy for anyone who may have a plane or train to catch.

    Location 5.89 /10

This Accor hotel is located a 10-minute walk from Postdamer Platz, in the Kreuzberg district. Tegel and Schoenefeld airports are around 6 mi and 19 mi away respectively.

    Accommodation 6.20 /10

This two-star hotel's 146 guest rooms are all pretty similar, and half of them overlook the street. The lifts were designed to make them accessible to as many people as possible, hence the buttons placed at a convenient height for wheelchair users. The green carpeted corridors leading to the guest rooms are bright thanks to their white walls and wood panelling. The hotel has opted for simplicity and colour, hence the way the pink carpet in the rooms matches the pink and white walls. In some of the rooms, the light wood desk can be converted into an extra bed. The little bedside tables form part of the headboard unit, and the cupboard is small and has no door at the front. Next to the television, there is also a set of shelves for you to put any bits and pieces on. One of the walls is adorned with a print of a watercolour landscape, and there is also a full-length mirror so you will be able to check your outfit from head to toe. Don't bother looking for the mini-bar, because there isn't one! Entering the bathroom, with its rounded shower cabinet, feels a bit like being in a capsule. There is a soap dispenser and a hair-dryer set on the plywood surface next to the sink.

    Overview 6.95 /10

The Ibis hotel opened in 2004 close to Potsdamer Platz in a good geographical location for a short break. Behind the light brown shades of the modern façade hides an establishment where simplicity and comfort are the watchwords. In the little red and cream lobby, all you will find is a counter shaped like a wave, and two computers provided for guests to use. To the right, you will see the hotel's bar and restaurant, which has a dark wooden floor and is furnished with tables of a similar colour and long, green bench seats. The walls are decorated with large photos and still lifes. At the back, above a large rustic cupboard, films, news bulletins and sports programmes are projected onto a wall. Ice creams and fruit juices are served there all day long at very reasonable prices, between approximately £2 and £3 each. Newspapers are renewed on a daily basis.

    Food and drink 6.20 /10

The Ibis Potsdamer Platz's restaurant is on the ground floor, which serves breakfast every day from 6:30am to 11:00am on the weekend and until 10:00am during the week. It consists of a comprehensive buffet, of a kind often seen in Germany. If you need to leave early, you can reserve yourself a lighter breakfast to eat between 4:00am and 6:30am. During the day, you can enjoy salmon-based snacks or Berlin's traditional meatballs (they are a bit like meatloaf), a variety of salads with mushrooms or cheese (expect to pay around £6), smoked pork chops, etc. Vegetarians can also choose from various dishes especially suited to their diet. The children's menu includes chicken nuggets, potatoes, fruit juice and ice cream. You can expect to pay around £5 for these types of small dishes.

    To know

At reception, guests may use the two computers which are provided with an Internet connection and a printer. As the hotel does not have a currency exchange service, you can pay for your room in most common currencies.

The Berlin Movenpick hotel is much like its home town. It's a surprisingly trendy establishment. It was built in 1914 by Herr Siemens, opposite his first factory, and still shows many industrial architectural elements of that era, associated with a modern interior and noble materials such as European wallnut wood. With items taken from the ancient next-door railway station decorating each floor, the industrial interior is complete. The establishment includes 243 fully-equipped rooms (the standard ones feature a bathtub designed by Philippe Starck), a business centre with two computers connected to the Internet, a gym and a sauna. The restaurant and its large bay window which opens up in the summer are worthy of mention.

Within walking distance of Potsdamer Platz, the NH Berlin Mitte offers the services of a typical NH hotel. In a nice setting, the large restaurant serves the three meals of the day, as well as large buffets, especially in the morning. On the top floor there is a gym and, if you like the heat, a sauna and sun room. If you are planning on driving to the hotel, the hotel has a 70-space car park, or alternatively, you can rent a car from the car rental company located next to the hotel. The guest rooms have simple interiors that include all the necessary mod cons: flat-screen television, mini-bar, safe, etc.

Open since 1998, the Grand Hyatt is certainly part of the very close circle of highly luxurious hotels in the German capital city. As it stands close to the famous Potsdamer Platz, the hotel benefits from an ideal location close to the splendid Christmas market in winter and inevitably enjoys the proximity of shops and restaurants open all year round. Guests can also use the in-house spa, so the activities are endless, whether indoors or outdoors!

The original facade of this establishment, one of the German capital's finest, says a great deal about its illustrious past, and the Hôtel de Rome is in fact one of the few luxury hotels to have taken up residence in a period establishment. Having said that, it's still hard to imagine the wonders concealed behind its walls, a tasteful combination of old and contemporary, from the superb entrance hall to the wonderful spa housed in the building's former vault. This hotel comes highly recommended to all those who have the means to stay there, and if you haven't, at least try the restaurant!

Mere mention of the word "Sofitel" is a guarantee of French luxury and know-how all over the world. The Berlin Gendarmenmarkt outpost is no exception to the rule and even brings some of its own additional touches, notably in the decor. The attractive combination of its ultra-modern design and the Communist-era architecture is impressive. It is a moderate-sized establishment looked after in a superlative manner by an efficient, friendly team, and is well worth a stay if you can afford the rates!

Managed by the Kempinski group, this hotel is hailed by all as a gem of architecture, with perfect technique and ambiance. These assets did not leave celebrities such as Greta Garbo and Charlie Chaplin or still, many politicians, who all stayed at this hotel, unmoved. Most of the guests staying at this elegant hotel, which stands between the avenues of 'Unter den Linden' and 'Friedrichstraße', do not know about its history. The chunk of wall displayed near the front door is the first clue. Built in 1987, the Westin Grand Hotel replaced a shopping centre destroyed during the Great War. This establishment inherited its predecessor's refinement, as well as a few almost identically reconstructed former characteristics. The rest of the hotel teeters between a classical and a contemporary style. Everyone should be able to find what they are looking for here... as long as they can afford it of course!
