The lifestyle Armani Hotel Dubai is nothing short of stunning. With every angle and curve that has been carefully studied to give the desired effect, the hotel is without doubt one of the best in the city, which is a huge statement to make, especially in Dubai, where the standard of hotels is generally very high. Mr Armani has overseen every single detail of this hotel, from the scents used throughout the hotel, to the embossed chocolates sold in the deli on the ground floor. The result is astonishing. What separates the hotel from the rest is firstly, its location, right inside the Burj Khalifa, and second, the sense of space of the hotel. Slick, sophisticated and contemporary, the hotel is a veritable success. The only downfall is that you could be anywhere in the world as there is no reminder of the destination's culture and traditions. The hotel is best-suited to couples and friends looking for the crème de la crème in luxury.

    • To know

    • The Armani Hotel is hard to miss. It sits snugly right inside the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa. Not only do you have the tallest building to gawp at as soon as you walk outside, but we strongly recommend that you visit the At.mosphere Lounge, also in the Burj Khalifa and accessed via the Armani Hotel; the lounge is the highest bar in the world (at the time of writing, April 2011). If that's not enough, you also have the largest shopping centre, the Dubai Mall, right on your doorstep, as well as the whole shopping complex surrounding the man-made lake, where you can also watch the fountain show (the largest choreographed fountains in the world), which may sound like a bit of a cop-out, but we assure you that you won't regret watching it! The advantage of staying at this end of the city means that you aren't far from the airport (10 minute drive) or from the old city centre along the Creek. The beach areas are about 20 minutes away by car.

    • As far as the rooms are concerned, they have won numerous awards for 'best hotel room' and it's not exactly hard to see why. Expect a completely seamless experience from the moment you step over the threshold, to the moment you leave, you probably won't even realise that every single aspect of the rooms have been studied closely, right down to the most minute of details.

There are 160 guestrooms and suites at the hotel; all decorated in the same palette of cosy yet slick sandy golden greys. Let's be honest here, the plush carpets that cover the floors, king size beds dressed in the most luxurious of linens and lighting that sets it all off just perfectly won't really encourage you to leave your room! There are 8 room categories to choose from, with the lead-in category starting at a cool 45m², ranging to a whopping 390 square metres for the uber-exclusive Armani Suite. Like we mentioned earlier on for the facilities at the hotels, there is little point in detailing every single mod-con to be found in the rooms, because you'll find everything you need and if not, then the overly-efficient staff will be all too happy to provide it. A tip when it comes to choosing your room is rule out the 'Armani Deluxe' as it isn't really worth the money because of its size and facilities. You may as well put in the extra spend and go for a roomier Classic, where you at least have your own seating area and signature lamps. The view is also important - if you want to feel like you are miles away from the hustle and bustle, then ask for a back facing room, but if your priority is to be able to watch over the swarming shopping complex and man-made lake, as well as the fountain shows every night, then make sure you get a fountain-view room.

    • The 39-floor Armani Hotel gives other Dubai hotels a run for their money, although the hotel may not suit everyone's desires. If you are looking for a lavish place to stay for a shopping/foodie holiday, then it is a good option, but if what you are after is a holiday atmosphere, then we recommend you head down along the Jumeirah stretch. Also, if you want something a little more typical of the destination, then go for something like The Monarch or a One and Only hotel as nothing about the Armani Hotel gives away even the remotest hint of its location, which some guests may feel is cold and impersonal. The neat lines in the design of the hotel are a reflection of the clean lines that are emblematic of the designer's clothing range. It's not really worth enumerating the hotel's facilities as though it were just another hotel, but for the review's sake, should you choose to stay here, you'll find a range of lifestyle shops on the ground floor selling a range of products handpicked according to strict instructions from Mr Giorgio Armani himself - and we can confirm that the chocolates are pretty good! The lifestyle products can be found all over the hotel; even the sugar cubes in the restaurant proudly wear the Armani 'A' and we were a little surprised to be served Armani branded ketchup with our club sandwiches. But isn't that what Dubai is all about? After Milan, what better destination to go OTT?

The Armani Hotel Dubai is the first hotel to have an Armani Spa, which isn't doing too badly despite the plethora of high-end spas in the emirate. You'll also be completely spoiled for choice when it comes to restaurants at the hotel; with the seven restaurants and bars on offer, you won't ever have to venture away from the hotel for a meal.

    • Hard to start describing the hotel's dining options as there are so many - one for everyday of the week in fact. That's right - you have seven options altogether. The beautiful Armani lounge is the most casual of the outlets, and serves drinks and food all day from 8:00am to 2:00am, so it's an ideal hang out no matter what time of day. Its atmosphere also changes throughout the day, its curves picking up the light of day as the sun sets. The bistrot style Mediterraneo, as the name suggests, serves Mediterranean specialities for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Italian - of course - Ristorante, is the place to go for the best Italian food in the city. And would really expect any less from the Italian designer? Open only for dinner, we strongly recommend you book at least a week in advance, even if you are a guest at the hotel. Amal, another stunning option, is the hotel's Indian restaurant open only for dinner. If what you're after is good food on the go, then of course the hotel's got it covered with Peck. Situated on the ground floor, this deli style restaurant is extremely popular with the business types who work in the area at lunch time and after work. If you are a sushi fan, then you also have the option of sitting down to an authentic Japanese meal at Hashi (dinner only), and finally, if none of the above do the trick for you and you feel like having a little privacy then you can always order room service around the clock.

Now for drinks - Privé, is the place to hang out (after At.Mosphere of course) if you can actually get access to the exclusive VIP bar, that is. Open from 10:00pm till 3:00am, guests can vibe to the DJ's beats all night long in this very stylish bar. Reservations are mandatory unless you know Mr Armani in person!

    • The Armani Hotel Dubai is the second hotel launched by the Italian designer after the success of the Milan property. More Armani hotels are in the pipeline, so watch this space.

Security at the hotel is extremely tight due to the amount of celebrities that stay here, so make sure you have all your reservation documents to hand when you arrive as you are likely to be stopped somewhere along the drive for an identity check.

Aesthetically one of the best hotels in Dubai, as well as one of the best located but seriously lacking the service needed to go with the fantastic surroundings. Ideal for adults but could be seen as a little fussy for the kids who will nevertheless be very happy in the large pool looking out onto the Burj Khalifa Tower. Along with its great facilities the hotel also houses one of the most sought-after bars, the Neos, on the 63rd floor which is a real celeb hangout. Watch people's eyebrows raise slowly in an impressed arch as you tell them where you are staying...

The hotel will be sure to seduce you right to your core - a haven of peace and tranquility, it is also set right in the middle of the shopping action. It is impossible not to be charmed by this palace which seems to have come straight out of A Thousand and One Nights. Indeed, it is a superb, moderately-sized establishment full of architectural extremes that are emblematic of the local culture, without forgetting its ideal location for shopping enthusiasts! Slap bang in the middle of the Burj Khalifa complex, the hotel sits right on the artificial lake that it shares with the Burj and the Dubai Mall. You are sure to fall in love with the delightful luxury and high level of comfort of this animated and truly privileged setting.

The first property in the UAE for the Oberoi Group, the Oberoi Dubai is located close to the Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa in Downtown Dubai. The emphasis at the hotel is on natural light. Its large floor-to-ceiling windows not only render the hotel bright and light but they also offer spectacular views of the city skyline. The hotel will also have three top-notch restaurants offering Indian, Pan Asian and international fare. Now open - still to be reviewed by us.

We found Al Murooj to be closer to a resort than a hotel due to its size and facilities, so it's a great choice for those of you looking for a lively holiday. The rooms are spacious, there is a good range of facilities and a dynamic atmosphere. There is also a good choice of restaurants for those foodies out there - the Indian restaurant, Zaika, is particularly good and serves some . Although the hotel has a large business clientele which is reflected in the style of the rooms, the hotel does welcome a solid base of leisure guests looking for a varied facilities such as restaurants serving good food.

Four Points hotels are a good-value four star brand managed by Sheraton. There are three in the city so be sure to have the exact name and address of the hotel before embarking in a taxi to avoid being dropped off at the wrong hotel. The three hotels are very different to one another so it is worth reading up to see which one would suit you best before booking. Being located right on Dubai's main road, Sheikh Zayed, the Four Points Sheikh Zayed Road is right in the middle of the action and has stunning views from its roof top pool; on a clear day it is possible to see landmark hotels such as the Atlantis and the Burj al Arab. Otherwise, in terms of comfort, it is a good bet that is suited to a range of clientele from business visitors to couples or groups of friends. Although the hotel welcomes families, there isn't much in terms of children's facilities.

The Towers Rotana may look in keeping with the Rotana brand from the exterior and lobby but has more of a design penchant in its restaurants as does the Media Rotana in Prego. Recently renovated, the rooms are still awaiting a refurbishment, but the food and beverage outlets look good. The Towers is ideal for young visitors, groups of friends and families alike. It is not a luxury hotel and it is not romantic either, but if you are the type of holidaymaker who likes to be in the thick of the hustle and bustle, then it is a good lively base to explore the city from.

Exclusive, The H is quietly and self-satisfyingly elegant without being pretentious. The Burj Al Arab appears on the horizon, rises out of the fog along the coastline in Jumeirah, visible from skyscraper terraces all over the city, like a myth seen in books. A real gem in its architecture, seeing the legendary hotel, the only seven star hotel in the world, is like seeing the Taj Mahal in India. It is a real architectural feat that should not be dismissed for being too showy, too brash, too contemporary, but rather revered as a symbol of this city that is no less than over the top! The hotel sits quietly glimmering in the sun along a long and wide sandy beach. The interior takes a while to grow on you, but the services and facilities are irreproachable. It's definitely worth a stay at least for a night, or if it is too pricy for your budget then do drop by for tea, but book early.

This is the second Atlantis hotel in the world. Is Atlantis The Palm, the flagship resort on Dubai's first Palm Island, a gem of a hotel or a monster of excess? Actually, it's both of them! It is perhaps the hotel that best represents Dubai, built as it is from scratch between the sea and the desert. A symbol of grandiose delusions, it is nothing less than a 'kingdom of superlatives'. Next to this immense and (in places) kitsch resort with its multitude of ultramodern facilities and restaurants staffed by award-winning chefs, hotel residents and day-trippers alike can enjoy a huge aquatic park. It is like a city within a city, making it ideal for families, but if you are looking for charm and intimacy, you're probably better off elsewhere!

Far from the madding crowds, this exclusive hotel is located on the dge of Dubai not too far from the airport but in an area that feels isolated away from the hustle and bustle of the city. A real haven of peace and quiet with a smart lodge atmopshere, this hotel is ideal to get away from it all. With sparkling facilities and spacious luxurious rooms, the Desert Palm specialises in equestrian activities and even has its own stables and polo club, including three hundred horses and four polo fields. Zabeel Saray took us by surprise by its sheer size, but for a luxury family resort of this size, the interior architects have done a great job in making it as opulent as a boutique hotel. Dripping in red and blue glass, velvet upholstered throne-like chairs and a fountain bigger than the average apartment all just in the lobby, gives this hotel a majestic appearance that is hard to rival. The service standards are top-notch and the facilities on offer are as exclusive as in the latest Mondrian in New York.
