    Location 4.0 /10

Just a short drive from the World Trade Centre, around a 10-minute drive from Deira, Dubai's traditional city centre, and just 2 and a half mi, around 10 minutes, depending on the traffic, from the international airport.

    Accommodation 9.20 /10

Each of the 225 guest rooms has a floor area of at least 560 sq ft, and each has a balcony overlooking the Creek. The stylish standard rooms are very comfortable and cosy, the cream decor set off by a few touches of dark brown and a nubuck headboard. All of the furniture is characterised by its curved features, whilst the comprehensive range of amenities includes a firm and comfortable king-size bed, various light fittings, individual air-conditioning, a wide-screen satellite television broadcasting 65 channels, a DVD-player, a direct international telephone line, an Internet connection (cable and wireless), an adapter, a free safe and a minibar
A large picture window complete with slatted blinds separate the bedroom from the bathroom, whichincludes a bathtub in the middle of the room, a large shower, a separate toilet (with a glass door), two washbasins set on a wooden unit, a magnifying mirror, storage space, a hair-dryer, bathrobes and slippers, and a fine selection of hospitality products (including a bar of soap and bath salts). A candle is also provided, for the ultimate in cosy bath-time relaxation.
Eight of the rooms also feature the original addition of a massage table, and the shower in these rooms also serves as a hammam. Room service and butler service are available 24 hours a day.

    Overview 7.70 /10

This incredibly peaceful hotel complex is spread across one of the banks of the Creek, bordered with lush vegetation and surrounded by a golf course on one side and the sea on the other. For once, the skyscrapers of Dubai are only visible in the distance. A combination of Moorish and Moroccan styles, the Park Hyatt Dubai opened in 2005 and consists of eight white buildings, each a maximum of 5 storeys high. Four of the buildings house the guest rooms. The various pathways and courtyards dotted around the complex are embellished with brightly-coloured bougainvilleas, and the spaciousness of the various parts of the complex means the hotel never feels crowded. The long, spacious corridors inside are bathed in natural light, which is further enhanced by the white walls, wooden doors and cream and brown carpets, and as is always the case in Park Hyatt hotels, local designs and artists contribute to the decor. The centre point of the Park Hyatt is the magnificent Arabian lounge, complete with cosy sofas and cushions, whilst vodka connoisseurs will be in their element with around forty different types on offer at the vodka bar. Sheltered from the wind by the buildings and surrounded by lovely deckchairs, the resort's geometrical swimming pool - the only pool in the complex - is 82 ft long, with small, palm-lined steps on either side leading down to the tranquil water. The only downside is the lack of natural light in the gym, which is disappointing in view of the beauty of the rest of the hotel.

    Food and drink 9.45 /10

Guests at the hotel can grab a bite to eat at any time of day or night in the hotel's lounge, whilst continental breakfast can be taken in the Arabian restaurant, between 6:00am and 11:00am, in the 24-hour lounge, or even ordered as room-service. All of the restaurants boast superb open kitchens, which will keep you entertained as you eat! The Arabian restaurant is open until midnight and really perks up the senses with its extremely elaborate buffets consisting of a wide variety of delicious starters and desserts. With a plethora of hot and cold appetisers on offer, fans of Jordanian, Syrian and Lebanese cuisine won't know where to start! The main course is chosen 'à la carte' from a selection which includes oven-baked seafood, lamb and even chicken kebabs. There is also the Thai restaurant, which is only open for dinner, and which sources all of its ingredients in Thailand. The black marble decor and dark varnished parquet flooring make for pleasant surroundings in which to enjoy wonderful individual portions of various dishes, giving you the chance to taste a bit of everything. The best way of doing it is to have around 5 to 6 dishes on the table in front of you to share. The two-storey, very high-ceilinged 'Traiteur' restaurant serves a variety of French-influenced dishes, and its wine cellar is one of the largest in Dubai, with some 4,200 bottles! The 'Terrace' stands facing the Creek and the yachts in the marina, making it the ideal place to take in a beautiful sunset as you sample the caviar, oysters and other delicacies served here, not to mention the delicious and beautifully crafted pastries, displayed like works of art alongside the very comfortable lounge area.

    To know

The hotel is located both alongside a large marina and at the heart of the lush green surroundings of the Dubai Creek Golf, making it perfect for a nice stroll or even a trip out to sea. Forty-six different nationalities are represented amongst the staff, meaning that they are perfectly adapted to meet the client's every need. The wonderful multi-award-winning and Condé Nast-listed Amara spa is a benchmark in the field of well-being. You'll soon forget any notion of time here, as you have your hands and feet cleansed with rose petals, enjoy a tropical shower in the privacy of your own garden or suite, or even choose a massage from the extensive menu showcasing the virtues of various stones, to be administered on your cushioned bed in a pleasant inner courtyard. A very wide variety of juices are also available, along with a detailed explanation of the health benefits of each.

The Rimal Rotana is part of the Emirati Rotana chain which has numerous properties all over the city. Rotanas are known for their modern aluminium and glass structures and are a good option for families as the rooms tend to be fairly spacious. Here, the ground floor is particularly contemporary all done up in white with the latest designer furniture, giving the hotel a fresh and modern feel. The Rimal is ideal for families or groups of friends. It is also fairly well-located just a short distance from the airport and from Deira, close to the Creek. The surrounding area is fairly pleasant with shops and local restaurants on the main road.

The Grand Hyatt is housed in a huge glass building incorporating several towers, with one of the largest leisure complexes belonging to a Dubai hotel at its feet. Families are extremely well catered for here, as there really is something for everyone; with its many upmarket services, impeccable gardens, various restaurants and swimming pools and a superb spa, you hardly need to leave the resort, unless, perhaps, you fancy spending some time on the beach. Workshops are also organised for small children and there is a children's club for under 4's accompanied by an adult.

In-keeping with the Rotana chain's contemporary glass and aluminium structures, the Rihab Rotana hotel apartments is also modern and kitted out for groups or families wishing to rent out a serviced apartment for the duration of their stay. In the way of facilities there is everything one could need although in the way of restaurants, it is probably best to explore what the city has to offer as there isn't much variety here. A smart hotel apartment establishment ideal for guests wanting to be left alone by the staff.

Part of the Leading of the World label, the five star Al Bustan is a modern oriental hotel. The mix of various textures, materials and colours employed can be a little on the gaudy side for guests used to more minimalist styles. The atmosphere is relaxed and the restaurants are of a high quality in the food that is served, the service given and the décor of each, especially that of the Blue Elephant, part of the internationally well-known chain. The hotel is ideal for guests needing to be close to the convention centres and although it has a high percentage of business clientele, it is open to leisure guests who are looking for a sound base from which to explore Dubai.

The chic Raffles Hotel is one of the larger more obviously opulent hotels in the city. With its instantly-noticeable pyramid structure and stereotypical Egypt-inspired interiors, the hotel has been a landmark in the area since it was erected in 2007. The hotel is situated close to Bur Dubai, the new town centre, so it isn't too far from the Dubai Mall/Burj Khalifa complex. The structure has a shopping centre atmosphere which isn't unpleasant if you want to be left alone by staff to get on with it. Raffles is a great choice if you're here on business, but its facilities are varied enough to cater for families. Raffles is an upmarket hotel, so not ideal if you're on a budget, but great if you need to combine work and play due to its location close to the new centre and adjoined to the WAFI shopping centre. However, Raffles is a hotel where size matters - it will not leave you disappointed by its room sizes, that's for sure!

The Manhattan Avenue is a moderately sized hotel hidden in the backstreets of the city close to a small mosque. There is nothing particular about the surroundings apart from the fact that there is less traffic noise and that you feel a bit more immersed in the ?real' life that unravels day-to-day in Dubai, mainly due to being surrounded by local residential blocks. Everything at the Manhattan Avenue is very average from top to bottom, but it is a good option for holidaymakers on a very tight budget wanting to spend a few days in the city. The hotel is drab and dull and could be a little cleaner. However the staff is willing and friendly.

The lifestyle Armani Hotel Dubai is nothing short of stunning. With every angle and curve that has been carefully studied to give the desired effect, the hotel is without doubt one of the best in the city, which is a huge statement to make, especially in Dubai, where the standard of hotels is generally very high. Mr Armani has overseen every single detail of this hotel, from the scents used throughout the hotel, to the embossed chocolates sold in the deli on the ground floor. The result is astonishing. What separates the hotel from the rest is firstly, its location, right inside the Burj Khalifa, and second, the sense of space of the hotel. Slick, sophisticated and contemporary, the hotel is a veritable success. The only downfall is that you could be anywhere in the world as there is no reminder of the destination's culture and traditions. The hotel is best-suited to couples and friends looking for the crème de la crème in luxury.

The Burj Al Arab appears on the horizon, rises out of the fog along the coastline in Jumeirah, visible from skyscraper terraces all over the city, like a myth seen in books. A real gem in its architecture, seeing the legendary hotel, the only seven star hotel in the world, is like seeing the Taj Mahal in India. It is a real architectural feat that should not be dismissed for being too showy, too brash, too contemporary, but rather revered as a symbol of this city that is no less than over the top! The hotel sits quietly glimmering in the sun along a long and wide sandy beach. The interior takes a while to grow on you, but the services and facilities are irreproachable. It's definitely worth a stay at least for a night, or if it is too pricy for your budget then do drop by for tea, but book early.

This is the second Atlantis hotel in the world. Is Atlantis The Palm, the flagship resort on Dubai's first Palm Island, a gem of a hotel or a monster of excess? Actually, it's both of them! It is perhaps the hotel that best represents Dubai, built as it is from scratch between the sea and the desert. A symbol of grandiose delusions, it is nothing less than a 'kingdom of superlatives'. Next to this immense and (in places) kitsch resort with its multitude of ultramodern facilities and restaurants staffed by award-winning chefs, hotel residents and day-trippers alike can enjoy a huge aquatic park.
