Radisson Dubai Marina, not to be confused with Radisson Blu in the Creek area and Radisson Blu Media City, is the most low-key of the three properties. Tucked away in the Dubai Marina area, it is easy to miss as you drive towards the Media City area. Like the other two hotels, it is stylish but is a little more discreet. It comprises of studios which are ideal for groups of friends, families and couples alike wishing to be independent of hotel activities and restaurant opening times. Situated in a quiet area of the city, it is a good base to explore the city from as it is halfway between the sought-after Jumeira beach area and the bustling districts of Dubai. This establishment is of very good quality and value especially for a three star property. It scores high with us and is without a doubt one of our preferred hotel-residences.

    Location 5.0 /10

Located halfway between the city centre and the Jumeira beach area, the hotel is in a quiet area, the Dubai Marina. The hotel is 21 miles from Dubai International Airport so visitors must count about 20 minutes drive, traffic-allowing. Sitting parallel to the Sheikh Zayed Road, it can be a little noisy at peak traffic times when the windows are open, but nothing too disturbing. In terms of the surroundings, there is the man-made marina lake, which is pleasant to walk around and admire the area's tall skyscrapers and it is within a short drive from the Emirate Hills golf course.

    Accommodation 7.20 /10

In total there are 151 apartments, designed by Matteo Nunziati, renowned Bologna-born designer. The apartments are very neutral in their colour schemes and minimalist in their decor. Stylish touches in the choice of lamps and the shape of the furniture used which bring s a fresh and contemporary atmosphere to the hotel-residence. There are four categories of apartments: standard studios, deluxe studios, one bedroom and two bedrooms. All the apartments are spacious enough and very bright and all, except for studios, have a balcony (although some face the main road) - for guests after a quiet view, then it is best to request this at the time of booking. In terms of amenities, the two bedroom apartments are equipped with DVD players linked to the flat screen televisions that can be found in all rooms. They are also equipped with a full-size American-style open-plan kitchen complete with a four-hob stove. All apartments have a kitchenette, washer/dryer, dishwasher, kitchen supplies and quality crockery as well as complimentary tea and coffee-making facilities.

The main difference in the apartments is the quality of the crockery and apartment size which ranges from 40m² to 120m².There are also non-smoking floors; request must be placed at the time of booking. All bathrooms have Anne Semonin amenities, which is in-keeping with all Radisson Blu properties. En-suite bathrooms adjoin to the master bedrooms of the rooms on the sixth floor. Otherwise all bathrooms, although very simple, have been stylishly designed with functionality at heart. All have bath tubs.

Although fairly well-maintained, the rooms could do with a fresh lick of paint, new carpets and rugs, and a top coat of wax on the furniture to freshen up the rooms.

    Overview 7.20 /10

Open in 2008, this hotel-residence consists of apartments only spread over 20 floors. Although this is a tall building, the hotel feels small and intimate. From the exterior, there isn't much to look at, but inside has a crisp peaceful atmosphere and pleasing contemporary touches which starts in the high-ceilinged marble lobby. The reception itself is fairly small but the lobby area to the left is extremely smart, spacious, light and well appointed, with several designer leather couches arranged in such a way as to create intimacy. The couches are comfortable enough to sink into with a good book. Behind the lobby guests will find the hotel-residence's only restaurant, the Siamin, which is tucked away at the end of a corridor. The elevators take guests up the twenty floors of rooms and to the health club facilities on the first and third floor.

On the third floor the gym is split into two areas for ladies and men. The gym is on the smaller side but the outdoor pool fully makes up for it! It is a spacious area with attractive decking and is fairly quiet and peaceful. Sunbathing here is a delight as there are rarely noisy guests taking over the pool and the surrounding skyscrapers make you feel like you are really in the crazy city of superlatives everyone is talking about. The decking is a lovely area brightened up with real plants and comfy couched. Here guests will also find a football table. On the first floor there is an indoor pool reserved for ladies' use (there is no lifeguard on duty here). There are also separate saunas and steam rooms for men/women. Although very simple, if you are looking for an apartment away from the city centre mayhem, this is a great bet as the accommodation is of good quality as is the service.

    Food and drink 6.70 /10

The hotel-residence has one restaurant, the Siamin, situated on the ground floor, which stands out from the subdued atmosphere of the rest of the hotel as the designer has gone a little purple-mad. Breakfast and lunch are served as a buffet and dinner is à la carte. However, most guests that stay here tend to head out and explore the city's eateries most meal times. Room service hours are between 7am and 11.30pm.

    To know

The Radisson chain is evolving fast as you will probably have noticed by the name change from Radisson SAS to the less-stuffy, younger and more contemporary Radisson Blu. All three Radisson establishments in Dubai have been brought into the 21st Century and needless to say that they look great whilst retaining their own style and not sinking into a standardised format for all hotels of the brand. The Dubai Marina property, unlike other Radisson Blu hotels, does not sell alcoholic beverages. There is free wireless internet throughout the hotel.

Granted the status of 'Preferred hotels and resorts', this hotel, with its quirky vertical and horizontal layout, is made up of the old and the new making it a rather conspicuous building. The plethora of services and facilities, as well as the beach, are greatly appreciated, but the flashy and kitsch nature of the place quickly becomes irritating. Located in the new marina district, the Habtoor Grand Resort and Spa is particularly ideal for families.

Its interior is extremely trendy, as is its evening entertainment, and the food here is excellent. The hotel occupies a high-rise building, the rooms of which are decorated in soft tones (making them all the more restful) and you will very soon realise that this hotel, which mixes elegance and modernity, pays special attention to the slightest detail!

An impeccable haven of peace and tranquillity. Part of the One and Only Royal Mirage complex of three hotels, the Arabian Court is the more intimate and grown up of the three. It also has more of an authentic Arabian style. The Residence and Spa is smaller and more old fashioned and The Palace has more of a family atmosphere. Arabian Courtyard guests can however use facilities at The Residence and The Palace. Stepping into the hotel is like crossing over into a whole other world filled with jewels, incense and rose petals. The corridors here are silent, the breeze can be heard circulating through open patios lined by immaculate lawns and flowers beds leading all the way to the sea front. For a hideaway, a break away from it all, this is the perfect place to come to if you don't want to be far from the action. The Arabian Court is perfect for couples looking to spend some quality time together, and although the hotel does sell itself as having a 'family focus', we wouldn't recommend the Arabian Court for children due to its serene atmosphere.

The Marriott Dubai Harbour is an example of the chain's first step into the 21st Century! Nothing like its sister hotels, the JW Marriott and the Renaissance, it is simple, contemporary, and comfortable; making the Marriott Harbour an all-round good choice. The hotel only has suites which is great for those not wanting to spend too much on wining and dining as all suites have their own fully-equipped kitchen. Groups of friends or families will find the harbour perfect for their stay as there are fun restaurants, AZ.U.R and The Observatory, as well as accommodation which lends itself very well to group stays. The slick Penthouse suite is especially fitting for large groups - or lone travellers needing a bit of space! The area, the Dubai Harbour, is fairly new and resembles an island planted with skyscrapers overlooking a lake and the sea as well Palm Island. We very-much enjoyed our stay here as the food is good, the staff is friendly, and the views are magnificent.

The Movenpick Jumeirah Beach Hotel is the perfect all-rounder if you're going to be spending a holiday in Dubai. Situated in the up and coming Jumeirah Beach area, it is in a prime location right across the street from the main beach. A five star hotel with excellent standards and a good general holiday atmosphere, it is a great place to choose whether in a group of friends, as a family or as a couple. However, compared to other hotels in the city, the hotel lacks a stronger luxury aspect to be a five star, which is why it has been awarded four stars by our reviewing journalist, The highlight of the hotel is its wonderful pool deck, which overlooks the sea.

Arjaan Rotana Hotel, an apartment hotel, is the tall pink tower with an arabesque arch on the top opposite the One and Only Royal Mirage complex between the Dubai Marina and Jumeirah areas. The hotel is very simple, quiet and basic if not old fashioned with garish-looking furniture in the rooms. The restaurant on the ground floor however, is a pleasant area to spend time in. The highlight of the hotel is its roof-top pool, which is rarely crowded and therefore makes for a relaxing area to sunbathe. Otherwise, a shuttle takes guests to the beach just across the road. The clientele is mainly from the Middle East, so the hotel is therefore a ?dry' hotel, meaning that it does not serve alcohol. The nice thing about the hotel is that its owner has tried to maintain a Moorish architecture which can be assimilated to Islamic culture; guests are therefore reminded of their destination as opposed to staying at a formatted hotel that could be absolutely anywhere in the world. The hotel is ideal for families as it comprises suites with kitchenettes and the rooms are generally spacious.

The lifestyle Armani Hotel Dubai is nothing short of stunning. With every angle and curve that has been carefully studied to give the desired effect, the hotel is without doubt one of the best in the city, which is a huge statement to make, especially in Dubai, where the standard of hotels is generally very high. Mr Armani has overseen every single detail of this hotel, from the scents used throughout the hotel, to the embossed chocolates sold in the deli on the ground floor. The result is astonishing. What separates the hotel from the rest is firstly, its location, right inside the Burj Khalifa, and second, the sense of space of the hotel. Slick, sophisticated and contemporary, the hotel is a veritable success. The only downfall is that you could be anywhere in the world as there is no reminder of the destination's culture and traditions. The hotel is best-suited to couples and friends looking for the crème de la crème in luxury.

A real gem in its architecture, seeing the legendary hotel, the only seven star hotel in the world, is like seeing the Taj Mahal in India. It is a real architectural feat that should not be dismissed for being too showy, too brash, too contemporary, but rather revered as a symbol of this city that is no less than over the top! The hotel sits quietly glimmering in the sun along a long and wide sandy beach. The interior takes a while to grow on you, but the services and facilities are irreproachable. This is the second Atlantis hotel in the world. Is Atlantis The Palm, the flagship resort on Dubai's first Palm Island, a gem of a hotel or a monster of excess? Actually, it's both of them! It is perhaps the hotel that best represents Dubai, built as it is from scratch between the sea and the desert. A symbol of grandiose delusions, it is nothing less than a 'kingdom of superlatives'. Next to this immense and (in places) kitsch resort with its multitude of ultramodern facilities and restaurants staffed by award-winning chefs, hotel residents and day-trippers alike can enjoy a huge aquatic park.
