The Address Dubai Mall is one of five stylish luxury properties of the same chain and is found inside the actual mall. The hotel feels very much like part of the mall inside the lobby but, much in the same vein as the other The Address hotels, the rooms are comfortable, stylish and spacious. The Address is all about design; however the service leaves a lot to be desired. Another highlight of the hotel is its obviously very central location which makes it a great base to explore the city from! However, a room at The Address comes at a price, so not great for visitors on a budget. In terms of clientele, the hotel welcomes a wide range of guests, from all four corners of the globe, from families to couples to groups alike. To sum up, The Address Dubai Mall is an attractive hotel, although less so than its sister hotel The Address Burj Dubai, where service is close to zero and that is overpriced in that the food isn't up to scratch for the prices charged. Furthermore, there is little atmosphere.

    Location 7.62 /10

The Address Dubai Mall sits in a prime location, right in the centre of town. However do make sure you have the exact directions as you could be wandering around the car park or the shopping centre for a long time before finding the hotel! The hotel is accessed via the car park - most taxis will be able to drop you right outside the door, however, there is often traffic clogging up the mall entrance, so you may be tempted to walk there instead of letting the meter run in standstill traffic. The easiest way to access the hotel via the Sheikh Zayed Road is via the Dubai Mall flyover. Once over the bridge, you must take the P3 exit. Otherwise you can also try accessing it from the Al Khalil Road and after the third traffic light turn left following the signs for Fashion Walk. The hotel should be indicated.

    Accommodation 8.20 /10

There are 244 rooms divided into ten categories, the main differentiating factor being the views and size ranging from 45m² (Deluxe) and 190m² (Tower Suite); otherwise there is one Presidential Suite measuring 350m². The Club room category is the same as the lead in category (Deluxe) but the rooms come with free access to the Club Lounge. The décor is not as chic as The Address Burj Dubai which truly looks like a leisure hotel, whereas the Dubai Mall hotel leans a little more towards a business clientele in it style. The colour tones are fairly neutral marked by dark shades of warm browns. All rooms have flat screen TVs, iPod docking stations, complimentary wireless internet and complimentary tea and coffee making facilities. All rooms have balconies overlooking the city. All bathrooms have bathtubs and separate showers as well as Angelo Caroli amenities. Club Suites is the only category to have a private Jacuzzi. Do ask for a view of the Burj Khalifa as it makes for a great sight, especially at night.

    Overview 9.20 /10

Arriving in the lobby here feels like walking into a separate wing of the mall but retains the shopping centre atmosphere which is a little cold. There are a couple of outlets on this floor and for the rest of the hotel, there is an escalator taking guests up. The reception area doesn't feel very welcoming, there were no valets at the entrance to take our bags and at a hotel of this calibre, it was surprising. At reception no one welcomed us; we had to search for someone in a uniform to make our enquiries. The lobby area did not feel relaxed and the staff was cold. Behind the reception desk, there is the Karat Lounge and to the right of the lobby guests will find the Matista restaurant. The third outlet is the most attractive of the restaurants, the NA3 NA3. On the third floor guests will find most of the hotel facilities such as the pool, gym, spa and Cabana Lounge which is by the pool - here a range of drinks and grilled food is served. (see our food and drinks section below). Otherwise, the hotel has some very attractive features including an impressive water feature taking up an entire wall which can be seen through the floor to ceiling windows of the NA3 NA3 restaurant. The wall reaches up to the wall and the feature runs down for four floors. The roof top pool is fairly spacious and is a very pleasant area to relax although it does get quite busy as the Cabana pool side bar is popular. The beanbags do call out to you as you walk by though... Due to the towering hotel, sun hours are reduced to afternoon exposure. Do avoid spending Fridays here, as it gets even busier than normal due to the hotel's Friday drinks/brunch promotions. The atmosphere would be a lot more relaxed if it weren't for the screeching socialites at the bar - mainly, I am sorry to say, Brits wanting to dazzle the city with their designer attire.

    Food and drink 8.70 /10

The Address Dubai Mall has five food and beverage outlets altogether. Behind the reception desk, there is the Karat Lounge and to the right of the lobby guests will find the Amatista restaurant. The Karat Lounge is cosy, a little dark but it is open 24hours. The second outlet is the most attractive of the restaurants, the NA3 NA3. With its high ceilings and clean cut lines, neutral tones, and potted palm trees to add a little colour and warmth, the restaurant is very smart. It serves authentic Middle Eastern dishes, usually as a buffet (open 6:30am-11:30pm). On the third floor guests will find most of the hotel facilities such as the pool, gym, spa and Cabana Lounge which is by the pool - here a range of drinks and grilled food is served (open summer, 7:00am-9:00pm and winter, 9:00am-2am). The hotel also recently opened Ember, serving mainly seafood. The restaurant has direct access to the mall and is open for dinner (6:30pm-11:30pm). Otherwise the hotel bar, Amatista, meaning Amethyst in Spanish, is a stylish place to have a drink and a dance; it is usually lively though, so do make a booking for a table, especially in high season. The bar also has a Cuban and South American vintage cigar lounge which is bound to attract cigar aficionados (open 6:00pm-2:00am Tue-Wed and 6:00pm-3:00am Thursdays and Fridays).

    To know

Getting to the hotel may prove to be fairly confusing and time-consuming due to the traffic leading into the mall car park, which is how the hotel is accessed, so do take specific instructions and make sure to follow signs for The Address Dubai Mall and not the nearby The Address Burj Dubai. The entrance to the hotel is easily missed as it is just two elevator doors behind a glass wall so keep your eyes peeled!

The JW Marriott is ideal for fans of the traditional side of the Marriott hotel chain. Although the hotel does have some very good restaurants, the experience was unfortunately a disappointing one. The service was excellent but the décor of the hotel is uninspiring, dated and overall a bit drab, we are sorry to say. The distances from the rooms to the rest of the hotel can be large and it is easy to get lost. Some of the rooms have permanently locked balconies which give out onto an (indoor) atrium letting in very limited light and give sthe hotel as shopping mall feel. This is not a reflection on other Marriott hotels however, as the Renaissance just across the road is more contemporary and the newly-opened Dubai Marriott Harbour edition is a real step into the 21st Century.

Traders is a very well located hotel of manageable size which welcomes mainly a business clientele but is trying to adapt to a leisure base and is a great choice for holidaymakers staying in the city for a long weekend and who want to be at the heart of the action. However do keep in mind that driving in Dubai is essential and therefore it is difficult to walk anywhere in the city centre. Traders is Shangri-La's four-star ?value for money' label, which can be found in Asia and in the Emirates. We liked this hotel very much due to the exceptional service standards and the general no-fuss light and fresh atmosphere.

The Crowne Plaza Deira, formerly The Renaissance (Marriott), is one of three hotels of the same chain in the city. It is a lively hotel with fairly good food outlets such as Spice Island, Sails, the Tiki Bar and Harry's. The rooms are on the small side and the decor is dated and dull. However the hotel does have one of the best roof-top pools in Dubai! The Crowne Plaza Deira is ideal for families due to the atmsophere, the pool and the food outlets. Not recommended for couples as it is not particularly luxurious or romantic.

The Media Rotana, part of the Rotana chain, is one of the brand's largest hotels. Contemporary in its décor and functional in its design the hotel welcomes both a business and leisure clientele. A fairly good base to explore the city from as it is centrally located. Families are also welcome and there is a play area dedicated to young children which is rather rare in the city. The restaurants are varied, although Channels could do with a change of atmosphere. Prego however, is lively and the food is fairly tasty. A good quality hotel that just needs a spa to heighten its leisure experience.

The lifestyle Armani Hotel Dubai is nothing short of stunning. With every angle and curve that has been carefully studied to give the desired effect, the hotel is without doubt one of the best in the city, which is a huge statement to make, especially in Dubai, where the standard of hotels is generally very high. Mr Armani has overseen every single detail of this hotel, from the scents used throughout the hotel, to the embossed chocolates sold in the deli on the ground floor. The result is astonishing. What separates the hotel from the rest is firstly, its location, right inside the Burj Khalifa, and second, the sense of space of the hotel. Slick, sophisticated and contemporary, the hotel is a veritable success. The only downfall is that you could be anywhere in the world as there is no reminder of the destination's culture and traditions. The hotel is best-suited to couples and friends looking for the crème de la crème in luxury.

The Burj Al Arab appears on the horizon, rises out of the fog along the coastline in Jumeirah, visible from skyscraper terraces all over the city, like a myth seen in books. A real gem in its architecture, seeing the legendary hotel, the only seven star hotel in the world, is like seeing the Taj Mahal in India. It is a real architectural feat that should not be dismissed for being too showy, too brash, too contemporary, but rather revered as a symbol of this city that is no less than over the top! The hotel sits quietly glimmering in the sun along a long and wide sandy beach. The interior takes a while to grow on you, but the services and facilities are irreproachable. It's definitely worth a stay at least for a night, or if it is too pricy for your budget then do drop by for tea, but book early.

This is the second Atlantis hotel in the world. Is Atlantis The Palm, the flagship resort on Dubai's first Palm Island, a gem of a hotel or a monster of excess? Actually, it's both of them! It is perhaps the hotel that best represents Dubai, built as it is from scratch between the sea and the desert. A symbol of grandiose delusions, it is nothing less than a 'kingdom of superlatives'. Next to this immense and (in places) kitsch resort with its multitude of ultramodern facilities and restaurants staffed by award-winning chefs, hotel residents and day-trippers alike can enjoy a huge aquatic park. It is like a city within a city, making it ideal for families, but if you are looking for charm and intimacy, you're probably better off elsewhere!
