This former palace, which is famous because Agatha Christie stayed here, has retained all the charm of the old days. Its outdated style will transport you through time. One of the most charming places in Istanbul.

    Location 5.2 /10

The Pera Palas is in the heart of Beyoglu, 165 ft from the shopping street in Istiklal, and a few streets from the famous Flower Passage. Allow half an hour to get to the airport (12.5 miles).

    Accommodation 8.20 /10

In line with the rest of the hotel, the rooms have retained the charm of days gone by. More than their size, it is the height of the ceiling which impresses. All are in brown hues, and furnished with big beds, carved and varnished bedside tables, and a large hardwood wardrobe. The parquet is polished and decorated with a pretty Anatolian rug. Although most of the 145 rooms have been renovated, the bathrooms are original, as can be seen from the retro bath and the bidet as well as the crude pipework. They have air conditioning, minibar, safe, satellite television, and telephone with direct international access. Thanks to the room service you can have a proper meal in your room 24 hours a day.

    Overview 7.45 /10

This historic hotel was built in 1892 to accommodate travellers stepping off the Orient Express at Pera station, which used to be a few feet away. Although its equipment has been modernised (it was last renovated in 2000), the hotel has preserved all its old-world charm intact: cashew furniture, waxed parquet, marble columns, red wall hangings, cupolas in stained glass, and Art Deco windows. The wooden lift and its operator bear witness to the Belle Epoque. In the bar, lit by the large bay windows overlooking the street, there are displays of various objects such as pottery, crockery, and gramophones. And it is painful when the awful metal detector just at the entrance disturbs the authentic, well-preserved atmosphere.

    Food and drink 8.45 /10

The restaurant of the Pera Palas is worth a look. It is a beautiful room with a high ceiling, decorated with old wooden counters, and it can seat up to 300 persons. A grand piano on a small stage is livened up by a pianist every night, under the gleaming gilt on the ceiling and the large crystal chandeliers. Lunch and dinner are served at your table. The menu has 15 starters, 11 fish dishes, 7 Turkish specialities, 13 grills and 14 desserts. Turkish and international gastronomy. It is not extremely refined but is very good quality nonetheless. Breakfast is served buffet-style in a room next to the main restaurant. You can also have a snack in the hotel's tea room.

    To know

Each room bears the name of a celebrity who stayed in the hotel. Agatha Christie's room is where the famous novelist stayed when she was writing "Murder on the Orient Express". This room is said to hold the secret to her 11-day disappearance in 1926. Do not hesitate to request this room to spend a few days here. By contrast, do not stay in the suite that was occupied by Ataturk when he went down to the Pera Palas: it has been turned into a museum (visit on request).

Located close to the Marmara, this hotel has a young and dynamic style that is rather convincing: take, for example, the restaurant that caters to business travellers and employees who work in the surrounding offices daily, as well as the clean, private, and welcoming spa.
The strong point of this hotel is undoubtedly its proximity to Taksim Square, the business centre of Istanbul and a hub for nightlife.
The Taksim is a discreet place to a stay, either alone or with your family.

This is a discreet little place at the very heart of Taksim, the city's business district.
With its fine restaurant and pleasant staff, the Feronya primarily attracts business travellers, though it is also a good place for a perfectly pleasant getaway.
Nevertheless, a good bit of renovations wouldn't go amiss, particularly where the rather gloomy communal areas are concerned.

The hotel opened some ten years ago, but it has kept a youthful and energetic atmosphere, taking advantage of its small size and its location to attract a mixed clientele: a perfect establishment for holidaymakers but also well equipped to cater for those travelling to the area on business, the Nippon is the ideal establishment for a stay in the capital.

As its name indicates, the Sumahan on the Water is a little world on the water. Inside, it displays a balance of lines and shapes that create a modern style and is never cold. This is a bit of a surprise given the exterior aspect of the building, which management wanted to keep as nondescript as possible.
This effort to go unnoticed speaks of the attention afforded to the guests, in terms of welcome, service, and cuisine. The Sumahan blends luxury and attention to detail together with know-how, efficiency, good taste, and quality.
It also commands one of the finest views of the Bosphorus there is. It really is in a league of its own.
