Farniente, the very essence of Agadir

Agadir in short

Nicknamed the Pearl of Morocco, Agadir is one of the country's liveliest destinations. Reconstructed after the 1960 earthquake, the seaside resort is the ideal place to relax and unwind. Discover it with friends, family or as a couple. Known as a sunny town, the Pearl of the South enjoys 300 days of sunshine a year. The charm of this city lies in the great hospitality of its inhabitants and its golden beaches.

Visit the city's highlights with friends or family, and share moments of intense happiness. Between relaxation and activities, in Agadir you have every choice. As well as 340 days of sunshine a year, with summer temperatures reaching 40 degrees, you can swim all year round and bask in the golden sand on the beaches.

Morocco is also a mountainous country, with four main mountain ranges: the High Atlas, the Middle Atlas, the Anti Atlas and the Rif. If you're feeling more sporty, you can explore the mountain ranges overlooking Agadir. A complete change of scenery in a breathtaking setting. Other activities, such as cultural visits, are a must to familiarise yourself with the city's history. There are a number of museums you can visit to enrich your culture, the most popular of which is the Amazigh Heritage Museum, dedicated to the memory of Berber heritage. Agadir is one of Morocco's most popular tourist destinations. With its many historic monuments, wild landscapes on the outskirts of the city and lively, welcoming streets, a stay in Agadir is a change of scenery and resembles a tale of a thousand and one nights. The city has many charming attractions. The Kasbah of Agadir Oufella, a fortress built in 1540, towers 23 metres above the town. Take your time strolling through the streets and visiting the souk.

A visit to Agadir's fishing port and fortified granaries is an essential part of any trip to the city. Numerous museums are open to allow visitors to immerse themselves in local history, culture and art, while the more adventurous can try their hand at hiking in the desert and visiting historic sites just a few kilometres from Agadir. For example, you can take a trip to Tamegroute, a desert town with an extraordinary library containing manuscripts dating back nine centuries. Holidays in Agadir, a modern, dynamic and active city, are a great success whatever the season. The town is also Morocco's leading fishing port.

Unforgettable landscapes: the desert all around the city fascinates and captivates. From cities and sands to mysterious caves, from hikes to dromedary rides, the desert landscapes bring a breath of freedom to tourists. Architecture steeped in history: Agadir was at its height in the 16th century. Every street corner and every monument brings back memories of the past and the splendour of the historic city, particularly in the fortified granaries, walls and fortresses.

Agadir can be visited all year round: in both low and high seasons, the city's charms are on display from morning to night to satisfy tourists. For a romantic weekend or a week-long expedition, the city is warm and welcoming all year round. An atmosphere of dreams: between modernity and history, dreams and reality, holidays in Agadir surprise visitors and take them back to the tales of the Arabian Nights, in the footsteps of explorers and sheikhs. Nature at your fingertips: mountains, valleys, gorges, lakes and waterfalls await nature lovers. In addition to the nearby nature parks, it is surrounded by desert and offers breathtaking scenery. With beaches considered among the most beautiful in Morocco, Agadir is a jewel of nature.

Practical information

👉 What travel documents do I need to visit Morocco?

A valid passport is required to enter Morocco. A visa is required by the Moroccan authorities for stays of more than 3 months.

👉 How do I get to Agadir city centre from the airport?

Agadir Al-Massira airport is located 25km from Agadir city centre. The journey to Agadir city centre from the airport takes around 35 minutes.

During the day, the taxi fare is around 200 Moroccan dirham (less than €20). After 8pm and at weekends, the fare varies between 250 and 300 Moroccan dirham (less than €30).

We recommend that you have some local currency with you when you arrive to pay for the taxi. The airport has a bureau de change if you wish to exchange money.

👉 Taxi fares during your stay

Taxis are still the most practical and economical way to get around. However, as a tourist, prices are likely to be inflated by drivers. Coloured taxis (red or orange) are available for short distances in Agadir, and have a meter. A trip across town will cost you around 20 Moroccan dirham (less than €2).

For longer distances and to leave the city, you will need to choose a white taxi, and the fare will need to be negotiated in advance of the journey.

During your stay in Agadir, we recommend that you visit Essaouira. Several bus companies offer this service, and the journey takes around 3 hours. Alternatively, you can book a taxi or hire a car for a Moroccan road trip. The scenery along the way is magnificent, and if you're lucky you might even come across some goats perched on argan trees!
