There is no shortage of hotels and bed & breakfasts all around the lake. That said, there is a remarkable concentration of hotels in South Lake Tahoe, a community of 20,000 inhabitants on the Californian side of the lake. Situated to the south, on the shores of Lake Tahoe, at the foot of winter and spring trails, on the border with Nevada, travellers flock here in both summer and winter. Most of the hotels are on Lake Tahoe Boulevard, on the edge of the lake. The concentration is even greater where the cable car starts to take you to the town's first ski slopes. The town is very popular with tourists all year round, and has built up a large number of establishments. For a night's stay in South Lake Tahoe, expect to spend no less than €150 on average. The hotels are, like the town itself, rather expensive. However, all the establishments are of high quality and do justice to the diversity of the town's attractions. If you're looking to save money in a quiet atmosphere, Kings Beach or Tahoe Vista are the best places to stay.
