Whether you're with the family or a group of friends, the two orienteering trails available in Les Ménuires are a fun way to discover the mountain and its beautiful scenery.

You can pick up a leaflet from the tourist office and set off in search of the markers on your own, following the map provided. Whether you choose to set off from the Bruyères lake or from the top of the Saint-Martin 1 cable car, you'll have a great time with the whole family.

Both orienteering courses are free and can be completed without time limit.

A few tips for a successful family orienteering event:

• Prepare well: Before setting off on an orienteering course, take the time to find out about the routes on offer and the equipment needed. Do you need a compass? Is a compass provided by an app on your smartphone enough? Make sure you have good hiking boots and clothing suited to the weather, as well as a phone with 100% battery power.

• 🗺️ Study the map: Before setting off, study the map of the route carefully and look out for the markers you need to find. Don't hesitate to practise reading a map beforehand to be more effective in the field. This can be a good preliminary activity to teach children how to find their bearings on a map. They'll be more active on race day.

• 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Set off as a team: As a family, it's often best to set off as a team. It's a great way to support each other and work out solutions together. It's also a great way to bond and help each other.

• Set a goal: Set yourself a clear and realistic goal, based on your level and that of your children. The important thing is to have fun and discover the mountains together. You don't have to finish the race if the children have difficulty walking and lose interest in the activity, or you can plan to do an orienteering race over several days.

• Stay aware of the environment: In the mountains, it's important to stay aware of the environment and not stray off the marked trails.

Around the resort, you can take part in two treasure hunts for a great family activity. Like the orienteering course, the treasure hunt is played in the open air, but this one is even more fun, involving solving riddles and finding hidden clues. This game will require even more team spirit to complete the mission and solve the riddle.
