Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal via Algonquin Provincial Park

Before spending a few days in Montreal, the final destination of our holiday, we decided to visit Toronto and Ottawa, via Algonquin Provincial Park. This 5-day itinerary begins your journey in Toronto, an impressive and dynamic city nestling on the shores of Lake Ontario.

We spend 2 exceptional days discovering the city and the Toronto Islands, the largest pedestrian zone in North America. Then we'll soak up nature and fresh air in Algonquin Provincial Park, a 3-hour drive from Toronto. This immense park captures all the authenticity of the Canadian landscape. It's a wonderful day, and we're taking our time to enjoy it. The next day, we discover Canada's capital, Ottawa, and its historic monuments dating back to the first settlers.

After a great day's sightseeing, we arrive in Montreal, where we'll be spending a few days visiting the trendy eco-city.

Day 1 - Arrival in Toronto

To begin our trip to Canada, we arrive in Toronto. With its 3 million inhabitants, it's a dynamic, trendy and fascinating city. We spent our first day wandering the high streets and discovering microbreweries, designer boutiques and innovative concepts. We're amazed by the energy of this city.

In the evening, we went to eat in one of the restaurants in the Distillery District. The brick walls and cobbled streets give us a warm welcome to this old distillery founded in 1837 by two Englishmen. This historic district of Toronto is the heart of the city's art and culture. The food here is magnificent, and you'll be happy to linger a while and share a stout beer with friends.

Mill Street Brewpub, a real Canadian pub

We eat at the Mill Street Brewpub and enjoy craft beers in a real authentic dark wood decor. We share a plate of nachos and meet some friendly Torontonians who ask us about our holiday. The pub is open from 11.30am to midnight on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. From 11.30am to 1am on Fridays and Saturdays. After a great evening, we head out and face our jet-lag to be in shape for the next day.

Day 2 - Discovering the Toronto Islands

The next day, we were full of energy as we set off to discover the Toronto Islands. Located just a few minutes from the city, floating on the calm waters of Lake Ontario, the Toronto Islands are truly fascinating. Separated from the mainland by a violent storm, the archipelago is the largest pedestrian zone in North America. As a result, a stroll around the Toronto Islands is calm and relaxing.

We stroll among the cottages, typical of Canada's east coast, and discover an incredible view of Toronto. To get there, we head for the Toronto Ferry Docks. The journey takes 15 minutes and the boats leave regularly. We spent the night in Toronto before setting off for Algonquin Provincial Park the next day.

Day 3 - Algonquin Provincial Park

On the way to Ottawa, we decided to stop for a day in the wilds of Algonquin Provincial Park. Located 3 hours from Toronto, we set off early in the morning to at least have time for a short hike in the park.

Algonquin Provincial Park covers more than 7,000 kilometres. It is an immense park containing a dense, lush forest, the immense Lake of Two Rivers, numerous hiking trails and camping areas. Algonquin Provincial Park has been a Natural Historic Site of Canada since 1992. We spend the day walking through the forest.

As luck would have it, we spotted a moose in the distance, the largest member of the deer family of antlered animals. We decided to sleep near the park and hit the road again the next morning.

Day 4 - On the road to Ottawa

From Algonquin Park, it's a 3-hour drive to Ottawa, Canada's capital. Ottawa is an exciting and historic city. We take a walk along the Rideau Canal before visiting the museum on the creation and development of the city: the ByWard Museum.

The construction of the Rideau Canal is closely linked to the creation of the city of Ottawa. Originally, in the 1800s, the beginnings of Canada's capital were the campsites of the workers building the canal. We spend a pleasant day in Ottawa. After the canal and its museum, we admire the panoramic view and the sunset from the famous Parliament Hill before eating in a fantastic restaurant.
