🚌 How do I get to Koh Samui?
Flight Flying is the easiest, most convenient and quickest way. Daily flights are available from Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Krabi and Pattaya, as well as from neighbouring countries such as Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Hong Kong. Return tickets cost around €100 for a short flight of around 90 minutes. Ferry The second option is much cheaper, but takes 3 to 4 times longer to reach Koh Samui. Head to the pier and board a ferry to Koh Samui. One of the famous ferry companies that serves this route is Lomprayah Ferry.
🚗 Getting around Koh Samui
Despite being Thailand's second largest island, it only takes around 2 hours to get around Koh Samui. Chaweng and Bhoput are the most crowded areas, which are convenient for its many restaurants, bars, shops, chic nightlife hangouts.
Scooters and motorbikes are the cheapest way to get around Koh Samui. Daily rental rates can be as low as THB 200 or as high as THB 500. Renting a bike gives you more freedom to visit the towns and especially to park. You just need to be careful as some roads are very steep and difficult.
Songthaew (local transport): pronounced "Song-Tao", this is the local public transport system, also known as the "Jeepney" on Koh Samui. These mini-trucks are commonly seen in popular areas and are certainly one of the cheapest ways to get around the island.
Taxis are still not the cheapest option in most destinations and Koh Samui is no exception. A simple 10-minute ride costs around THB 300. When you need to take one, ask for the best price before you get in.
Hiring a car is the most expensive option, but it obviously offers great flexibility and maximum comfort. You can even hire a car with a chauffeur service.
