A stroll through the popular Parc Güell, Gaudi's masterpiece

Parc Güell is one of Barcelona's most important green spaces, a public garden that, with its 17 hectares, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located in the Gràcia district of Barcelona, it is one of Gaudí's masterpieces, and boasts mosaics of magnificent colours. It is a world-famous site that attracts many tourists every year. The history of this place began in 1900, when Eusebi Güell, the descendant of a wealthy noble family, contacted Gaudí to give him the commission that gave birth to this marvellous place. For visitors to Barcelona, it's a must-see, and tourists love strolling along the park's paths, following the walls decorated with colourful mosaics. It's a beautiful walk, especially at the end of the day when the sun goes down. Take a stroll and let yourself be amazed!

The history of Park Güell

The ambitions of Gaudi, the famous Catalan architect, were so great that some of his works could not be completed during his lifetime. The Parc Güell was to have been a garden city, but it remained unfinished, as did the Sagrada Familia. Until recently, it was the last site designed by Antoni Gaudí that was still free in Barcelona, but since 2021, admission has been charged. This is partly to regulate the number of tourists visiting the site, and partly to pay for the work needed to complete the park.

Gaudí's fairytale garden is one of the most unusual green spaces, laid out between 1900 and 1914 and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The two pavilions at the entrance are reminiscent of Hansel and Gretel's gingerbread house, while the interiors are more reminiscent of a hobbit's dwelling.

The mosaic ceiling, supported by 86 columns, supports a large circular panoramic terrace, bordered by an undulating bench covered in multicoloured mosaics where people throng to admire the view. Don't miss the splendid panoramic view of the city from the top of the hill. Here you will find the Casa-Museu, where the architect lived for 20 years until his death in 1926. This beautiful pastel-pink house still retains the structure it had when Gaudí lived there. The museum houses works and personal memorabilia by the architect: furniture, projects and drawings by Gaudí and his collaborators. A pleasant stroll that will delight young and old alike.
