Filming of "Maria" in Paris: filming locations where Angelina Jolie can be seen

Paris, "the most beautiful city in the world", has always fascinated celebrities from the world of the arts, including foreigners. Marlene Dietrich, Ernest Hemingway, Kenzo and Maria Callas, among others, have all lived here, far from home. Director Pablo Larraín took the opportunity to make a film about the famous singer, set in the most beautiful districts of Paris, with Angelina Jolie in the title role.

The Champs-Elysées

The film will be aimed primarily at Americans. The Champs-Elysées and the Eiffel Tower are therefore virtually indispensable to the making of the film. This principle is more than obvious, and Angelina Jolie, wearing large dark glasses, grey hair and a grey coat, was seen last week at these key locations, on the film set. Was Callas a regular on the world's most beautiful avenue? She might have been. She lived on the right bank, near the Trocadéro.

Maria Callas had a special affection for France, and the French people in particular (our journalists showed her their sympathy following her aphonia incident during La Norma in Rome in 1957, when the Italian journalists booed her). Perhaps this is what finally convinced her to come and live with us.

The Alexandre III Bridge

This beautiful bridge in Paris spans the Seine and the Champs-Elysées harbour in the heart of the capital, linking the Grand Palais district to Les Invalides. Watched over by the 4 golden Pegasus galloping at either end, it symbolises Franco-Russian friendship. This unique setting welcomed the film crew last week. Angélina Jolie was there.

The Opéra Garnier

To find out where to see the star, you need to take a look at Callas's history. In December 1958, for example, she took over the Opéra for a memorable performance. It's a safe bet, then, that this illustrious theatre will be one of the film's locations, as its production would be hard put to ignore this historic moment and this opera. At the time, the press described it as"the greatest spectacle in the world".

Place Vendôme

Incidentally, Callas later gave an interview at the Ritz to express her gratitude to our journalists for their kindness at the time. This legendary 5-star hotel boasts a dream address, 15 Place Vendôme. As well as its sumptuous suites, the hotel is also renowned for its Ritz Escoffier School (Auguste Escoffier co-founded the establishment), and its spa with swimming pool. Superb.

Paris 16th arrondissement

Maria Callas lived in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, at 36, avenue Georges Mandel. So it's hardly surprising if you come across the American star dressed as the Greek singer, with the whole production team around her.
