A colossal project
The renovation project for the Centre Pompidou is a bold one. It aims to modernise the infrastructure, improve the exhibition spaces and make the museum more accessible to people with disabilities. Above all, however, the building needs to be cleaned of asbestos and brought up to safety standards.
The 140,000 works in the centre's collections will be moved to the Centre Pompidou-Metz and the new "conservation and creation centre" in Massy, due to open in 2026, which will both provide access to the collections before Beaubourg reopens in 2030.
