Conan Doyle was a mystic. He believed in the afterlife and haunted houses, spinning pedestal tables and ghosts. On the bed of his fertile imagination, the invention of his character Sherlock Holmes enabled him to make the link between the reality of the mysterious and human genius. He was thus able to put his hero to the test at the same time as his creativity, in a dozen novels.
No city in the world is more marked by a literary character than the city of London is by that of Sherlock Holmes! Museums, restaurants, itineraries, clothes, statues, attractions, guided tours - you can't walk through London without encountering some incarnation, however subtle, of the famous detective. And why is that? Because Sherlock Holmes is London.
A personification of vivacious intelligence, with his feet firmly planted in the Victorian era that pervades the streets of the capital, a passionate love of puzzles as much as the unusual and the mysterious, Sherlock Holmes is the unattainable fantasy of every Briton. That's why he's so present.
Nice to meet you, Mr Holmes!
221B Baker Street, welcome to Holmes and Watson
Sherlock Holmes lives at the now legendary address of 221B Baker Street. Remarkably, an association of fans of the character, of which there are many in England, has founded 221B Baker Street Limited, which has invested in this address to reproduce the detective's flats as they are described in the novels.
The Sherlock Holmes Museum welcomes you to a space that will bring together what you imagined when you read the novels and what really happened, in the purest British style of the Victorian era. All your hero's personal effects can be found here. His notebooks, his many books, his library, his archive room and even Dr Watson's black bowler hat.
But also his famous magnifying glass, his calabash pipe and his emblematic hunting cap that the British call "deerstalker", made famous by Sherlock played by Peter Cushing!
The Sherlock Holmes Pub
Located at 10 Northumberland Street, near Trafalgar Square, the Sherlock Holmes Pub is a favourite with fans of the detective. But it's also a favourite with gourmets and fans of London cuisine.
With its typically British Victorian decor, this authentic pub is the place to go for a real fish and chips, a slow-cooked pork belly confit or a creamy risotto with prawns, salmon fillet and crispy squid, with a good English beer in hand.

Not rusty yet, Sherlock
All great men have their statues, and Sherlock Holmes could not escape this fate. A beautiful bronze sculpture by John Doubleday awaits you outside the detective's flats, on the corner of Baker Street and Marylebone Road.
Straight as a walking stick, dignified, a mysterious brunette, Mr Holmes stands there as if defying time. And while the novels of his creator, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, have all been adapted, new adventures are constantly being written for him by innovative authors, particularly in the cinema.
