Building the marina began in 1971, but it wasn’t opened for public use until 1978. It was officially opened in 1979 by Queen Elizabeth II. Over the years, the Marina developed and facilities were rapidly built. Residential complexes were erected to accommodate local people and harbour workers, while leisure facilities such as stores, entertainment centres, restaurants, cafés were progressively added to the marina area. Today, it is a place where locals come to relax and get out of the very centre of town and are able to spend some quality time with friends and family members by the waterfront.
The UK’s largest marina, Brighton Marina is the perfect spot to spend a chill afternoon or a day out with the family. The place is a mix of retail and entertainment hubs, along with residential housing and of course, a working harbour. Visitors can come here to get away from the busier seafront and still get to be by the water, but in a much more peaceful and quiet environment. The Marina offers entertainment for all ages, both indoor and outdoor.

Editor’s tip
As much as we love going to the Marina for a calmer alternative to the seafront, it can still get busy on bank holidays or weekends. Try to go later in the day, that’ll allow you to hopefully avoid most of the larger crowds and also allow you to enjoy a sunset if it’s a clear day.
