Our favourite Christmas markets in the UK

We might not all be fans of the winter season, but there are definitely things to look forward to, and the Christmas markets are at the very top of that list. With fairy lights, mince pies, Christmas carols, cinnamon rolls and mulled wine, they're an unmissable part of the festive season, but we argue that some are better than. For instance, you might prefer some markets either for their light shows, their performances, or their ice rinks, so make sure to pick one that aligns with your interests.

Bath Christmas market

While the city of Bath is pretty magical all year round, it becomes particularly charming during the Christmas season. When the market sets up, there are an impressive 150 chalets with fairy lights everywhere offering plenty of local crafts, as well as warm food and drinks at The Lodge if you need to rest and get a snack after a hard session shopping for the best presents for your loved ones. This year, the Christmas market is on from the 23rd of November to the 10th of December, allowing visitors three full weekends to enjoy it.

Chester Christmas Market

While this one may be on the smaller side with just 70 stalls, the Chester Christmas market is definitely worth a visit as well. Indeed, it offers plenty of great products from tasty fudge and local spirits to arts and crafts, so you are bound to find great presents for your loved ones. After visiting the market, continue your exploration of the area and visit Cheshire, which is delightful this time of year.

Edinburgh Christmas market

From late November to early January, Edinburgh puts on the most festive display in the country with Christmas lights and a traditional market that includes singing choirs, handcrafted gifts and decorations. The Scottish capital is the perfect destination to celebrate Christmas due to its dreamy medieval and Georgian architecture which might make you feel like you are in a movie. Wander down Royal Mile, all the way to the Scottish Parliament Building and Edinburgh Castle.

For a cosy, luxious stay complete with impeccable service and delicious breakfasts, look no further than the Gleneagles Townhouse. It's worth booking for their Christmas decorations alone.
