Sustainable Initiatives

Igloofest seems to be a gold star festival on all fronts, especially in terms of its sustainability efforts. Indeed, the festival has been taking initiatives to reduce its carbon footprint ever since 2015. In fact, Igloofest was rated as level 2 for “an eco-responsible event” by the Quebec Normalisation Bureau, and here’s how.

In addition to leveraging collective efforts towards sustainable and local partnerships, Igloofest’s ‘change-agent’ employees have ensured to be completely transparent and engaged towards a reuse economy and has been profiting from it ever since. In other words, actions put in place such as participating in social reuse programs, promoting these initiatives online, and greater security measures such as ridesharing have been conducive towards maintaining a more sustainable and safe festival. Moreover, Igloofest has invested in adopting a unique reusable drinking glass system, reusable, recyclable and compostable take away food containers, compost bins in their food cantines, and drinking fountains to decrease single use plastic bottle use. As a matter of fact, it has decreased the single use of plastic bottles among its staff by 25% since 2015!

More initiatives include donations to a green project for every festival ticket purchased, coordinating sponsorships and promotional activities exclusively online to minimise paper advertising, and conducting  coherent sustainable development (SD) campaigns for the Conseil Québécois des Événements Éco-responsables (developed by the Igloofest SD committee) to ensure these aforementioned efforts are maintained throughout the entirety of the festival and for future years
