Deauville beach, parasols and cinema

Celebrated in 1966 by director Claude Lelouch, Deauville beach features in the film Un homme et une femme. But Deauville beach isn't just a frozen black-and-white image! In summer in particular, it's full of life! Every morning at dawn, the municipal services of the town of Deauville clean the beach and its surroundings. The aim is to restore the beach to its pristine condition. From then on, the first tourists come to enjoy the morning sun. Meanwhile, joggers work out on the Promenade des Planches. It was in 1875 that Deauville decided to install parasols on its beach. Manufactured by the Deauville council, the parasols come in 5 colours. The municipal department that designed the parasols also repaired them.

Over the years, the Deauville parasol has changed. The stripes were abandoned in the 1930s. What's more, the colours and the very special way in which the parasol skirts are tied make the Deauville parasol a remarkable photographic object, much sought-after by visitors. You can hire a parasol, a mattress and even a cabin at the Bains de mer de Deauville! After a day on the beach, the site has showers and changing rooms.
