This stretch of coastline is known as the Côte Normande, and on this route you will be accompanied by the sea on one side and orchards and lush green fields on the other. In the distance, across the estuary, you'll see the town of Le Havre and its port facilities. On the way, you'll pass through the small seaside resort of Villerville. This charming little village retains a pleasant rural character. The woods and meadows around the village invite you to take a walk ordiscover the area by bike. Still on the way to Honfleur, stop off at the beautiful 12th-centurychurch at Cricquebœuf.
Honfleur is hidden away on the edge of its estuary, just 19 kilometres from Deauville. It's a complete change of atmosphere here, even if the Normandy coast and the town of Honfleur remain popular tourist destinations (especially at weekends). Honfleur and its famous harbour boast a very ancient history. The town's history dates back to the 11th century, when it was one of the most important towns in the Duchy of Normandy. The development of Honfleur and its port coincided with the settlement of the Normans (the Vikings) in the Bay of Seine from the 9th century onwards. In the 19th century, the town attracted artists, writers and painters and became famous throughout the country. The venerable mansions of the Old Harbour Basin will remind you of this era. That's why a visit to Honfleur complements a stay in Deauville!

Nestling on the Seine estuary, Honfleur exudes a unique atmosphere with its old dock, fishing port and charming old streets. Honfleur is a popular weekend destination for lovers. The Vieux Bassin is the city's focal point and most romantic spot. Around it, the quays of Sainte-Catherine and Saint-Etienne face each other. The slate-roofed houses huddle together and are reflected in the waters of the harbour. A perfect location for photographers! The city's setting is as poetic as you could wish when the colourful boats sway against the ancient quays. This unique atmosphere is also palpable in the Enclos district. There are many old timber-framed houses in the rue de la Prison and the rue des Lingots.

In fact, the church is covered in wooden tiles! The imposing bell tower is separate from the main church building. Finally, the town boasts two major museums dedicated to the painter Eugène-Boudin and the classical musician Erik Satie. The Honfleur Tourist Office offers passes for these museums, but admission is charged. If you're in the mood for a good meal, head for the Au P'tit Mareyeur restaurant! Here you'll find fresh produce and the flavours of the sea. A sure bet in Honfleur (4 rue Haute 14 600 Honfleur). Open every day except Tuesday and Wednesday.
