Bath

Bath is a great city for a staycation because there are endless possibilities in terms of activities. Besides visiting the Royal Crescent for a glimpse at some world-class architecture, you should try a Bath Bun. This sweet roll topped with crumbly sugar has even been elaborately depicted by Jane Austen. You can find some of the best at Sally Lunn’s Historic Eating House. One of the main Bath attractions is, of course, the three main springs that comprise Bath’s ancient thermal baths. The King's Spring, the Hetling Spring and the Cross Bath Spring have an interesting history and role in the city’s culture. These Roman baths are found in the centre of the city and should be visited if you travel to Bath. Though it is no longer possible to take a dip in the Roman baths, there are plenty of other thermal baths in the city to experience.

The Cotswolds

The Cotswolds has been recognised as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and includes the countries of Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire, Warwickshire, Wiltshire, Worcestershire and Somerset. This area of southern England is ideal for a visit with friends or family because of the wide variety of activities available. Attractions to see with children include the Cotswold Wildlife Park & Gardens, the WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre, and the Cotswold Water Park. If you are looking for a calmer getaway in the Cotswolds we recommend heading to Nailsworth which is located in South Gloucestershire. This beautiful town is surrounded by woods and full of charming stone houses and buildings. We recommend staying in a cute cottage B&B in the centre of the town like Wild Garlic Rooms.

The Lake District in Cumbria

One lake that comes highly recommended is Buttermere. It is surrounded by well-maintained and easy walking paths. Not too far away is Rannerdale Valley, which is a secret valley not too far from Buttermere Valley. The walk there is beautiful and offers views over three lakes and countless mountain tops. If you are looking for an authentic and nice place to stay in town, you can’t go wrong with anywhere near Kenswick or Ambleside. Be sure to test out a Cumbrian pub, as it is a great place for meeting locals and having a delicious bite to eat. A landmark we advise making time for is Hadrian’s Wall. It is just one of many structures in the Cumbrian and Northumbrian landscapes remaining from the Roman era in 122 ACE.

The Scottish Highlands

Some of the main attractions in the Scottish Highlands include visiting Fort George and hiking sling Steall Waterfall and Loch an Eilein. Besides venturing out into the stunning landscapes, you can also head to Melrose, Roxburghshire and visit the Melrose Abbey. Also known as St. Mary’s Abbey, this monastery was founded in 1136. Though renovations prevent visitors from entering the church itself, the picturesque landscapes and the easy walk from the town centre make it worth the trip. Of course, the Scottish Highlands are also the perfect opportunity to visit Loch Ness and learn more about the legends of the mysterious creature lurking in the lake.
