How do I get to the Geierlay suspension bridge?

You can't get to the Geierlay suspension bridge by car. So there's another way: hiking. There are a number of walks to reach the huge bridge, but we recommend that you find the starting point in Mörsdorf, a village close to the bridge from which the routes are fairly clear and precise.

If you follow the signs along the way or on the website, you'll be able to find the footbridge quite easily, despite the 10 kilometres involved. The walk takes around 4 hours and is an integral part of the experience! It's a chance to wander through some stunning scenery, enjoying the shade of the forest on a hot summer's day. And when the top of the forest is revealed, hikers have access to impressive viewpoints.

An extraordinary footbridge for an unforgettable experience

While the hike is definitely worthwhile, it's nothing compared to the surprise that awaits you at the end: the Geierlay suspension bridge, one of the longest in Europe! With a total length of 360 metres, you can barely see the end of the immense footbridge from one of its ends. And you'd better not be afraid of heights, as it rises some one hundred metres above the ground. But there's no need to panic, it's very safe and there's very little risk of accidents.

So many people venture there (over a million since it opened in 2015) to enjoy the unusual experience of walking almost above the void for a few hundred metres, but if that doesn't tempt you, you can be content with admiring the magnificent view over the forest that stretches below as far as the eye can see. Either way, it's an unforgettable experience and, who knows, perhaps a good opportunity to face up to your fear of heights.

What can you do near the suspension bridge?

After all these thrills, the adventure isn't over and you can take time to discover the surrounding area and the few visits you can make nearby. First of all, there's the village of Treis Karden, around twenty minutes' drive from the suspension bridge. The ideal place to stay next to the bridge, this small town on the Moselle has all the charm of a typical German municipality. With its small harbour and views over the surrounding hills, the town is a haven of peace. And in summer, it's very lively, with small parties and entertainment in the evenings, where you can sample delicious "curry-wurst" and other local specialities.

And high above the town, you can even spot Wildburg Castle, a beautifully restored building that looks like something out of a fairytale.
