La Confluence district: a futuristic and unique Lyon

It's no coincidence that the district is called La Confluence, or simply Confluence for the real locals... It's located at the confluence of the Saône and Rhône rivers. Laid out with a garden, the tip of Confluence seems shaped by nature, just a stone's throw from the large industrial buildings of a neighbourhood in constant evolution.

Revitalised since the early 2000s, this district of the City of Lights is home to a large shopping centre that brings together shopping, leisure activities and restaurants. Perfect for bringing back a few souvenirs from your visit!

From the Quai Antoine Riboud, next to the shopping centre, set off on a short cruise along the Saône towards Bellecour, Saint-Paul, Vaise or for a loop back towards Confluence. Aboard a Vaporetto, an eco-friendly river shuttle, you can cross the city quickly and easily, while enjoying the scenery!

A former industrial district with numerous factories, it has been rehabilitated and transformed into an eco-neighbourhood with a wide range of shops, offices, housing and green spaces. If there's one thing that sets Confluence apart from other districts, it's its unique architecture! La Sucrière, a restored former factory, is one of the few historic buildings still standing. It hosts a wide range of exhibitions, concerts and trade fairs... a true cultural centre.

Jakob+MacFarlane's Cube Vert and Cube Orange are two other emblematic buildings in the district. They respectively house the world headquarters of Euronews and an extension of the former Halles du Salins du Midi, as well as the Cardinal Group. Large conical atriums run through the heart of the buildings, spreading light throughout the floors. A veritable explosion of colour in a district marked by its atypical character!

Located where the Rhône and Saône rivers meet, the Musée des Confluences is first and foremost a building with resolutely avant-garde architecture that evokes a spaceship with sharp angles. Knowledge, technology and learning are at the heart of this place where everything is possible and discoveries are made.

Recently built on the banks of the Rhône, this is the must-see museum in the area. Inside, you'll find several thousand objects tracing the history of mankind. It features exhibitions on the origins of life (archaeology, civilisation, etc.). Temporary exhibitions, conferences, concerts and events enhance the permanent exhibitions. With its futuristic architecture and magnificent garden, you won't want to miss it, so come on in!

⏰ Opening hours:

• Tuesday to Sunday: 10:30 am to 6:30 pm. Also open at these times on Mondays during zone A school holidays (except July/August) and on Easter and Whitsun Mondays. Closed at 5.30pm on 24 and 31 December.
• Closed: Mondays, 1 January, 1 May and 25 December.
