Rick's Café pays tribute to the fictional bar in the legendary film Casablanca. Released in 1942, the film continues to shine today. It was only natural that the café's founder, Kathy Kriger, decided to make the café a reality by opening it in 2004. Nestled in a 1930 manor house close to the old medina, the initiative has been a great success, and the restaurant and bar have become a must-see for many tourists.
Rick's café has established itself as one of Casablanca's must-visit spots. What makes it special? It's a replica of the legendary nightclub in the film "Casablanca", which tells the love story of Rick Blaine and Ilsa Lund who meet under the Vichy regime in 1941. Although none of the scenes in the film were actually shot in Morocco, a former American diplomat, Kathy Kriger, wanted to pay tribute to the work. So when you enter the café, you'll feel as if you've stepped back in time to 1942, with brass chandeliers, table lamps and a grand piano nestling in an archway. This visit will be a delight for all cinema fans!

Travelling to another era
As soon as you walk through the doors of Rick's café, you'll be plunged into another world: the American restaurant is housed in a beautiful two-storey riad, structured around stucco arcades with soberly sculpted beams, in the pure Moroccan architectural tradition.
You'll find soft lighting, wrought iron candle holders, beaded lampshades, jazz and blues repertoire from the 30s and 40s, and vintage film posters. In a vibrant tribute to the film Casablanca, you'll even spot an authentic 1930s Pleyel piano on which the song As Time Goes By, sung in the film by 'Sam' (musician Dooley Wilson), which accompanies Rick and Ilsa's romance, is played in the evenings.
In a corner of the bar called 'The Lounge', you'll see the roulette table that appears in the film, as well as a screen showing the film Casablanca.
Eating while listening to live music
The café is an ideal place to come and eat while enjoying music, particularly jazz. In the evening, musicians play famous songs, from French, Spanish and Brazilian classics to American tunes such as Summertime, The Lady Is a Tramp, Blue Moon and, several times a night, the inevitable As Time Goes By.
The restaurant menu features international cuisine and an interesting choice of fish and seafood dishes. You can also drop in for an aperitif and enjoy the enchanting, intimate setting. Booking essential.
