Walking along the Corniche in Casablanca

Want to discover Casablanca's trendiest spot? The boulevard de la Corniche (seafront) is the place to do it! This pedestrian walkway, refurbished in 2009, is 6.6 km long and runs from the Aïn Diab beach to the Hassan II Mosque. It's a popular spot for families, sports fans and night-time revellers alike.

A busy promenade

Several types of public alternate on the Corniche: in the morning, you'll see joggers practising their sport in a group, before giving way to the families who come here for a breath of fresh air at the weekend. If you want to have a chance to enjoy the beach without the crowds, we would advise against Saturdays and Sundays, as this is the preferred spot for all Casablanca residents to picnic or relax.

Finally, once the sun goes down, you'll see a flock of young people converging on the corniche, looking for a bar or disco along the way. Some of them are also looking for clubs with access to pleasant seawater pools, complete with straw huts and wide deckchairs.

Relaxing in a private pool

Private establishments began to spring up all over the Corniche in the 1930s, when the Lido, the first 'select' swimming pool, was created. It was then one of the largest in Africa, with its three distinct pools: a 'popular' pool, a large pool, and a pool reserved for competitions (swimming, water polo), as well as slides and diving boards. Since then, the trend towards private beaches has become more widespread, and you'll be spoilt for choice when it comes to soaking up the sun.

We recommend you try the Tahiti beach club, which has become a veritable institution. Founded in 1952, it has changed the face of private beaches and pools. While the cult of the body was once the watchword, the establishment has turned to a more playful approach, dedicated to lazing around.

The concessionaire behind the project had a brilliant idea: after a long stay in the Pacific Islands, he wanted to create a place inspired by his travels: palm fronds, totem poles, black, azure and ochre-coloured canvases... a guaranteed change of scenery! The site has grown steadily, and now covers 2 hectares. You'll find pools combining salt and fresh water (there are numerous springs nearby), a private beach and 3 restaurants.

Which restaurants to choose?

If you're hungry, there are several choices. While the Pavillon Bleu is more suited to receptions, business meetings and galas, the other two are easily accessible. La Paillote is reserved for fans of trendy clubbing atmospheres: constantly enlivened by a DJ and entertainment at weekends, it offers chic and affordable snacks: salads, tapas, pizzas, sandwiches, grills and tacos. Each dish costs between €5 and €12.
