An invigorating hike in Erquy, along the GR®34

The GR®34 or customs trail is a walking itinerary that goes all the way round Brittany.

Here, we'll be looking at the Erquy area. The trail takes in the whole of Erquy's remarkable seafront, with its cliffs, coves and fine sandy beaches.

We describe the entire path from west to east, but you are free to choose only certain sections of this superb walk. In fact, each sector has its share of surprises, all accompanied by a breath of sea air. Erquy and its nature, a real treasure to discover!

From Saint Pabu beach to Erquy village centre

🏖️ The first part of the path towards the centre of Erquy runs alongside several beautiful beaches.

You walk along the beach at Saint-Pabu, then come to the very long beach at Caroual.

The path then rises and follows the promontory of Pointe de la Houssaye. You are now at the southern end of Plage du Centre.

You finally arrive at the centre of the seaside resort of Erquy.

🍴 For a gourmet lunch break, stop off in the centre of Erquy at the À la poudre de perlim'painpain bakery-pastry shop.

Here you'll find the best bread in town, plus a huge selection of brioches and kouign-amann. It's the ideal place to stock up on victuals before or during your hike!

The GR®34 trail also runs alongside Erquy harbour, right in the town center.

From the centre of the village of Erquy to the islet of Saint-Michel

🥾 From the start of the route, there are a number of remarkable sites:

  • The blue lakes are former quarries now home to small reservoirs.
  • The ruins of an 18th-century cannonball oven.
  • The magnificent cove of Port-Blanc (a great spot for a photo).

As you follow the path eastwards, the views of the sea are fabulous. You pass along the wild beaches of Lourtuais and Portuais.

The walk ends at the Pointe du Champ du Port. Enjoy the beautiful view of the islet of Saint-Michel with its beautiful chapel.
