Cap d'Erquy, a remarkable geographical site

🌊 Cap d'Erquy stretches along almost 3 kilometres of coastline facing the English Channel. It is also a highly valued natural site covering more than 170 hectares.

As such, it's an integral part of France's listed and protected Grand Site: Cap d'Erquy-Cap Fréhel.

Here you'll find a veritable mosaic of natural environments. A wide variety ofecosystems can be found in this small area.

On your walk, you'll discover beaches, cliffs, pink sandstone rocks, moors, dunes, woods and marshes...

What's more, if your aim is to discover a wonderful sandy beach. Then this is the place for you!

To the north-east of the cape lies the magnificent Lourtuais beach. It's reached by a path laid out in the moorland.

Finally, fans of the Asterix comic strip will be pleased to know that the famous village of the "Irreducible Gauls" is located here!

Discovering Cap d'Erquy

The Cap d'Erquy is a real paradise for walkers.

There are several footpaths along the cape. What's more, the panoramic views are sensational!

  • The wild beaches trail stretches for almost 8 kilometres. Sandy beaches and wild coves are the order of the day!
  • The Carrier Trail, an interpretation trail almost 2 kilometres long.

In addition, the famous GR34 ® hiking trail runs along a large part of the Cap d'Erquy site.

And for birdwatchers, the site is a great spot for birdwatching!

The Cap d'Erquy site is home to many species of birds, both nesting and passing through!

Where to stay near Cap d'Erquy?

When should you visit Cap d'Erquy?

The exceptional site of Cap d'Erquy can be discovered all year round. It never gets very cold here. In fact, the oceanic climate is pleasant all year round.

However, heavy winter storms can make for a hazardous visit, with rain and strong winds!

But winter is also the time when the iodised sea air is particularly invigorating.

Otherwise, the most pleasant period is of course summer, with its beautiful sunny days.

🚌 How do I get to Cap d'Erquy?

🚈 The nearest SNCF train station to the Cap d'Erquy site is Saint-Brieuc. From Paris, several TGV trains run to Saint-Brieuc every day of the year.

🚘 By car, Erquy is around 450 kilometres from Paris.

It takes just over 4 hours by car (4 hours 20 minutes to be exact) following the A 11 motorway, then the A 81 motorway and finally the N 157, N 12 and D 34 roads.

✈️ Rennes-Saint Jacques airport is around a hundred kilometres from Cap d'Erquy. Several of France's major cities are linked by air to Brittany's capital!

🚗 Where can I park near Cap d'Erquy?

Free parking is available to the east of the site near rue Plaine Garenne.

Another parking area is available on rue de la Côte des Pâques. It is specially dedicated to motorhomes.
