There are a number of well-developed routes for exploring the region at a leisurely pace.
The Vélocéan is an itinerary over 140 kilometres long. It stretches from Piriac-sur-Mer in the north to Saint-Nazaire in the south. The route runs alongside the ocean, offering magnificent views over the vastness of the Atlantic.
Note that only 10 kilometres of the entire cycle route are dedicated.
La Baule is one of the main stages of the Vélocéan. If you only have one section to complete, don't miss the one between La Baule and Guérande. This section is called Le Sel à la Mer.
For 15 kilometres, you'll cycle along the marshes on a refurbished railway line.
Alternatively, the route along the Côte Sauvage is ideal for families. However, beware of the sections shared with cars. Part of the route takes place on a dedicated cycle route, while the other part shares a low-traffic road.
This cycle route between Le Pouliguen and Batz-sur-Mer is around ten kilometres long. At times, it follows the Vélocéan route.
On the way, don't miss the Musée des Marais Salants in Batz-sur-Mer. This area is entirely dedicated to the history, cultivation and harvesting of the white gold of the Guérande peninsula.
The museum is open all year round. Admission charge, free for children under 13.
