Day 1: From the salt marshes to La Turballe, the authentic Guérande peninsula

Today's itinerary alternates between salt marshes and the fishing port - quite a programme!

The salt marshes of the Guérande peninsula are well worth a visit. For example, you can cycle along the paths and cycle tracks. There are bike hire companies in Guérande and La Baule.

Or, viewed from above, the beauty of the salt marshes is even more astonishing. If you can, treat yourself to a helicopter or plane flight from the La Baule flying club.

After the salt marshes, head for the fishing port of La Turballe. La Turballe is the second largest fishing port on the Atlantic coast, and its main resources are sardines and anchovies.

Don't miss the arrival of the fishing boats and trawlers. They often return in the late afternoon on weekdays.

The auction can only be visited with a guide, so ask at the Tourist Office.

Around the port of La Turballe, climb to the top of the bell tower of the Church of Trescalan. From its 45-metre height, the panoramic view is superb.

At this height, you can overlook the town, the marshes and the Atlantic Ocean.

What's more, the town of La Turballe is surrounded by numerous sandy beaches.

For a lunch break, there are several seafood restaurants close to the port and the fish auction.

Don't miss the Pen Bron dunes not far from La Turballe.

This isthmus separates the lagoon from the Atlantic Ocean and stretches from La Turballe towards Le Croisic.

It's an ideal destination for a family walk. And after the walk, you can enjoy a swim on a beautiful sandy beach...

What's more, cars are not allowed on this protected natural area in summer.
