This tour guides you through the tree-lined quarter, taking you back in time to the Belle Époque and its eclectic architecture.

During this period, the town of La Baule was adorned with a multitude of beautiful and vast residences. They competed with each other in an exuberant architectural contest.

The most remarkable residences were La Paludière, Saint-Charles and the Villa Symbole.

Situated to the east of La Baule-Escoublac town centre, this area is home to some beautiful homes.

It's also famous for having a film named after it!

The 1990 film "La Baule-les-Pins", directed by Diane Kurys, is set in this part of the town.

Most of the villas in the area are in the Art Deco style, and you can see them from the district's central square.

In fact, Place des Palmiers is the heart of the district, with a total of 8 avenues meeting here.

During your visit, take a break at the Café des Écailles restaurant, located at the bottom of Avenue Louis Lajarrige on the way to the ocean. Open every day from 10am to 11pm, except Mondays.

This seafood and fish restaurant offers a menu focused on the sea and its delights. The terrace, facing the ocean, adds to the pleasure offered by this fine address.

Where to stay in a charming villa in La Baule?

Hôtel Le Saint-Christophe is a fine example of an early 20th century villa.

In fact, the hotel is not just one villa. It's actually four different villas, scattered around a beautiful park behind La Baule's seafront.

In all, the hotel has 39 rooms and suites. Some are designed for families of 4. The suites range in size from 25 m² to 40 m², with a living room and separate bedroom.

A bar and restaurant are available to hotel guests, with reservations required for the restaurant. You can enjoy your meals in the characterful dining room or on the large outdoor terrace.

Parking is available in the hotel's private car park.

Practical information

When is the best time to visit La Baule?

You can visit La Baule's listed villas all year round. Visits can be made individually without a guide. You can pick up a map from the La Baule Tourist Office.

However, if you wish to be accompanied, there are more guided tours in spring and summer.

In winter, there are at least two tours a month (more during school holidays). Go to the La Baule Tourist Office: 8 Place de la Victoire 44500 La Baule

🚌 How do I get to the centre of La Baule?

The town is linked to Paris by TGV. In the centre of La Baule, the SNCF stations of La Baule-Escoublac and La Baule-les-Pins welcome travellers.

Nantes international airport is the closest to the town, and there is an airfield at La Baule.

Finally, there is a good public transport network (buses) to get you around the town and to the La Baule-les-Pins area.

The Lila Presqu 'île website is a mine of information for checking timetables and the various bus routes in the centre of La Baule.

By road La Baule is 450 kilometres from Paris by motorway. Nantes is 76 kilometres away, Rennes 120 kilometres.

🚌 Where can I park in the town centre near the old quarters of La Baule?

Most car parks in the centre of La Baule are chargeable. In summer, tourist numbers are very high. This makes it difficult to find a parking space.

Think about coming early or using public transport.
