Relaxing activities at Lake Javen

At an altitude of 1,397 metres, Lac de Javen is a veritable oasis in the heart of the mountains. Facing the Aiguilles Croches and Mont Joly mountain ranges, this man-made lake looks like something out of a painting or postcard. In fine weather, the crystal-clear water reflects the mountains and invites you to relax.

But beyond its beauty, Lac de Javen also attracts tourists and locals alike thanks to its infrastructure. Without spoiling the place, a restaurant and a children's play area are available for all to enjoy. There are also plenty of anglers who come here, along with other sports enthusiasts (hikers, joggers and yogis). The only downside, which may frustrate some people, is that for safety reasons, swimming is not permitted in the entire lake.

How do I get to Lac de Javen?

Nestling in the heights of Megève, Lac de Javen is easily accessible on foot or by public transport. From the town centre, the ideal solution is to use the Meg' Bus shuttle service, which departs from the ice rink or the bus station. Get off at the "L'angne" stop near the Maz chapel, and walk up the Chemin de la Rée to the lake.

If you're more sporty, you'll prefer to hike from the hamlet of Le Tour, for a 30-minute walk at an altitude of over 1,300 metres: the perfect way to take a deep breath of fresh air and admire the Haute-Savoie scenery. Please note that access to the lake may sometimes be closed out of season.

Good to know: Lac de Javen is situated in the middle of nature, with very few shaded areas. So don't forget to bring a hat, sun cream and something to quench your thirst, especially if you're travelling with children or senior citizens.

Yoga on the banks of Lake Javen

It's an increasingly popular way to relax and reconnect with nature: several yoga classes are organised on the banks of Lake Javen, particularly in summer. Whether group or individual, these open-air sessions are a perfect blend of relaxation and contemplation. If possible, book a time in the morning, at sunrise, to admire the reflections of the lake and enjoy the peace and quiet.

Fishing in Lac de Javen

Many fishing enthusiasts flock to Lac de Javen during the summer season. This small lake is teeming with trout of all kinds. Young and old alike can enjoy this activity in the mountain sunshine, while complying with the regulations in force. Fishing rights (€8 per day / €10 for fly fishing) must be paid at the lake restaurant, located on site. The establishment also offers an equipment hire service for just €4. So you can discover this sport without breaking the bank! Please note that if you decide to take your catch with you, you will be charged extra for it (price per kilo).
