Nature reigns supreme in Val d'Allos

An exceptional environment awaits you in this valley where the sources of the Verdon are hidden. The higher you climb towards the resort of La Foux d'Allos, the more imposing the relief becomes.

As a bonus, the mountains in this sunny sector are increasingly covered in forest.

After the superb little fortified village of Colmars-les-Alpes (a vestige of Vauban), the Mercantour National Park appears.

From the village, the road climbs up to the Domaine de Ratery. In winter, this area is a paradise for cross-country skiers!

In summer, the region is transformed into the perfect destination for hiking.

This part of the Mercantour National Park lends itself well to wildlife watching.

If you're lucky, you may spot chamois, deer, roe deer and numerous marmots around the Col des Champs.

Marmots are present from May to September.

Another exceptional natural area, Lac d'Allos, is accessible from the village of Allos.

All you need to do to reach this unspoilt site is follow the D226 road, where there are several car parks (paying car parks in summer).

Then a pleasant hike (discovery trail) leads you to the fantastic site that shelters the Lac d'Allos.

You'll be at an altitude of over 2,200 metres, surrounded by a host of impressive peaks, and you'll feel like you're on a high mountain!

Practical information

👉 When should you come and enjoy the treasures of the Val d'Allos?

The weather in the Val d'Allos is influenced by its high altitude. It is therefore typical of a mountain climate (cold winters).

However, the Mediterranean climate has a clear influence on the area. There's plenty of sunshine all year round, and temperatures rise rapidly in summer.

For skiing, come from December to early March. However, some years the snow cover is not up to scratch. Find out about the conditions before you come.

In fine weather, the best hiking starts in May.

🚌 How do I get to the Val d'Allos region?

By road, several main roads serve the Val d'Allos. For example, the D908 road links Allos to Saint-André-les-Alpes.

If you choose to travel by train, the SNCF runs several services from Paris to Marseille station. From there, you'll need to transfer to the Digne bus station.

The nearest airport is Marseille-Provence.

🚌 Where to park in the La Foux d'Allos ski resort and near the major sites of the Val d'Allos?

Once in the ski resort, you'll find several purpose-built car parks. Some spaces are chargeable, so try to park early.

The same applies to Lac d'Allos and the fortified village of Colmar. In summer, access car parks are subject to a charge.
