The decor at the Villa Alessandra is Mediterranean in style, with rooms done out in very soft pastel shades. A particularly warm welcome is extended by the manageress, too, which goes some way to helping you overlook the minor flaws you'll notice around the hotel. The decor and fittings could certainly do with a makeover, but the location is superb, in a smart and very touristy part of town, close to a street where a market is held.

    Location 5.87 /10

The Villa Alessandra stands at the back of a small closed-off square, just a stone's throw away from the Arc de Triomphe and the world's most beautiful avenue, the Champs Elysées. Despite its proximity to one of the capital's most popular tourist districts and the many shops, bars and restaurants of the neighbouring Avenue des Ternes, the hotel provides peaceful surroundings. The little Rue Bayen which runs in front of the hotel is also home to a busy but expensive market which fits in perfectly with the very Provençal spirit of this hotel. The nearest metro stops are Ternes and Charles de Gaulle-Etoile, with the historic centre of Paris easily accessible on line 1, as well as business districts such as La Défense and the Palais des Congrès, which is very close-by.

    Accommodation 7.20 /10

The Villa Alessandra has 49 bedrooms (from singles to triples), including 2 junior suites, all of which are done out in the same fresh, rustic, Provençal style as the rest of the hotel, with the same varying shades of yellow and parquet flooring. It was interesting to note that the single rooms feature four-poster beds, perhaps to create an air of romance for those travelling alone, whilst all rooms come equipped with a safe deposit box, mini-bar, hair-dryer, central air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi and a TV broadcasting foreign channels. Only the suites have a welcome tray. The accumulation of all this mellow decor results in perfectly serene surroundings; so serene, in fact, that it may come as a surprise to hear the cicadas chirping in the early hours. Breakfast is served on the basement level. A very attentive welcome is offered by the manageress.

    Overview 6.95 /10

You will be struck by the unique ambience at the Villa Alessandra as soon as you set foot through the door, an ambience you might be surprised to find in a place tucked away close to the Arc de Triomphe at the very heart of Paris. Indeed, this place certainly has more of an air of Provence about it than a chic Parisian ambience. With its tiled floor in the small reception hall, the ochre and yellow paintings adorning the walls and the wrought-iron furniture and wicker armchairs, you really will feel like you've arrived at a Mediterranean villa, or perhaps even an ancient Roman residence. This hotel is probably not going to appeal to those who like the latest in modern cons, but those looking for tasteful and intimate surroundings should fit right in here. The hotel also has a small conference room and a hall with a bar at one end, not forgetting the small inner courtyard stuck onto the side of the building which is furnished with tables and chairs during the summer months.

    To know

The Villa Alessandra is one of the 4-star hotels in the Les Hôtels de Paris group, every hotel being decorated entirely differently from the rest, which is great for avoiding falling into the tedious room-standardisation trap.

The Waldorf is a simply wonderful hotel, the type which manages to create its own unique ambience, full of original decorative features, whilst remaining a simple, friendly 4-star hotel, just as it should be. One of the hotel's major assets is its splendid and relatively large indoor swimming pool on the basement level, complete with cosy, Zen-like ambience

This is a hotel full of French style in which no copies or reproductions will be tolerated. The Bristol is one of the few luxury hotels in Paris that belongs to a European family (German) rather than one of the great families of Asia or the United Arab Emirates. Stylish, classy and refined, the Bristol holds great importance in the quality and authenticity of its features and materials. Its gourmet restaurant attracts a demanding clientele that is fond of excellent cuisine.

The George V is one of the most prestigious Parisian palaces in the city. You barely have to cross the threshold before realising you are entering a hotel in which luxury, perfection and indulgence are the name of the game. Boasting rooms fit for a princess, impressive lounges and a Michelin-starred restaurant, the George V ticks all the boxes when it comes to satisfying even the most demanding of guests. The interior designer Pierre Yves Rochon oversaw the complete refurbishment of the building in 1997, and has since then continued to make improvements to the decor in the 18th Century style.

The latest Parisian luxury hotel, the Shangri-La will seduce a demanding clientele that will know how to appreciate the richly ornate Empire style of this particular hotel. Nothing more can be said about the lengths taken to find the materials, designs, and other accessories that contribute to recreating the atmosphere of the 19th century, while at the same time offering the comfort and modernity of the 21st century. This extremely shiny and ornate Empire style may scare away some potential guests, however, it is still a real privilege to stay in this residence previously owned by a prince, the great nephew of Napoleon.

Inaugurated on 28 February 2012, the W Paris - Opera has finally opened in the City of Light. The Starwood brand linked to fashion and trends thus has its own prestigious establishment in Paris.
Nestled in a 19th century building, the hotel is in a great location. Design and modernity, with a conceptual touch, all come together here. Its designer is in the best position to explain why, since we're not sure it's really clear otherwise, but the W Paris-Opera is centred around the theme The Spark. The establishment thus defines itself as a "spark", creating a fictitious connection between the very first W hotel in New York and its newest sibling in Paris.

At the heart of the Opera district, the W can already rely on its guests who are fans of the brand and hopes that word of mouth will make it the place to be in the area; not just for its rooms but for its restaurant and bar as well.

The Meurice is an exclusive haunt. the hotel's main restaurant, Le Meurice, is headed by 3 Michelin star Chef Yannick Alléno which is, needless to say, one of the highlights of a stay at the hotel. In a fantastic location right opposite the Jardin des Tuileries, the rooms are tastefully decorated and the service is impeccable.
