    Location 8.0 /10

The California is in a street perpendicular to the Champs Elysées. The George V metro station (line 1) is very nearby, providing quite a practical service to visit other parts of Paris, including direct access to the Tuileries gardens, the Louvre and the Marais district. Business people and tourists alike are well catered for, with direct routes to both the Palais des Congrès by metro, and Disneyland by the RER regional express train.

    Accommodation 7.70 /10

The 174 rooms are decorated in two ways: the unrenovated rooms (the Parisian rooms) are set out in a classic and wonderfully old-fashioned style, while the renovated rooms (premium) are a bit more contemporary in style and less personalised than the other rooms. Thankfully, it has been decided that when the rooms are next renovated, they will retain the classic style that gives the hotel its true identity. The rooms are divided into several categories: classic, Parisian and premium superior, Parisian and premium deluxe, junior suites and 1- and 2-bedroom duplex suites. The rooms are spacious and well-equipped (safe, flat screen television, individual air-conditioning, minibar, 2 phone lines), and there is free wired internet access using a wire borrowed from reception, while the bathrooms are provided with a hair-dryer and a set of scales.

    Overview 7.70 /10

The lobby is very spacious and bright, with the reception to the right and the bar to the left, just opposite the charming patio that helps make the hotel restaurant such a pleasant place for a meal. The hotel opened in 1925 and quickly became the hotel of choice for the American press, hence its name. The common areas can certainly cope with the numbers of guests the hotel is able to accommodate: there is plenty of room everywhere, and the lobby and patio are very pleasant. The decor is classic in style, with gold, crystal and marble fittings. Free Wifi is available in all the common areas of the hotel. There is also a large gym with fairly good facilities on the lower ground floor. However, what really gives the California its charm are the thousands of paintings and works of art that the hotel owner displays from his collection in the corridors leading to the rooms.

    Food and drink 7.70 /10

The hotel has a bar and a restaurant. The bar, Rouge Marine, opens daily from 10:30am to 1:00am, transforming into a piano bar at 7:00pm. It is known for the hundred or so types of whisky on its drinks menu, and is decorated in a classical fashion with a marine theme: sailors' knots, an anchor, a huge marble bar and lots of wood. As for the restaurant, it is open from Monday to Friday for lunch only (it also serves as the breakfast room). Traditional semi-gourmet French cuisine is prepared, and the menus (?19, ?23, ?32 et ?35) are good value. It is ideal for a business lunch, and the patio is really very pleasant on fine days. Why not sample the château Barateau on the wine list: which is produced by the hotel owner's family.

    To know

This is one of the few hotels in the 8th arrondissement to boast 7 conference rooms, 4 of which enjoy natural lighting around the patio, and can host up to 120 people.

Stylish, classy and refined, the Bristol holds great importance in the quality and authenticity of its features and materials. Its gourmet restaurant attracts a demanding clientele that is fond of excellent cuisine.

The George V is one of the most prestigious Parisian palaces in the city. You barely have to cross the threshold before realising you are entering a hotel in which luxury, perfection and indulgence are the name of the game. Boasting rooms fit for a princess, impressive lounges and a Michelin-starred restaurant, the George V ticks all the boxes when it comes to satisfying even the most demanding of guests. The interior designer Pierre Yves Rochon oversaw the complete refurbishment of the building in 1997, and has since then continued to make improvements to the decor in the 18th Century style.

The latest Parisian luxury hotel, the Shangri-La will seduce a demanding clientele that will know how to appreciate the richly ornate Empire style of this particular hotel. Nothing more can be said about the lengths taken to find the materials, designs, and other accessories that contribute to recreating the atmosphere of the 19th century, while at the same time offering the comfort and modernity of the 21st century. This extremely shiny and ornate Empire style may scare away some potential guests, however, it is still a real privilege to stay in this residence previously owned by a prince, the great nephew of Napoleon.

Inaugurated on 28 February 2012, the W Paris - Opera has finally opened in the City of Light. The Starwood brand linked to fashion and trends thus has its own prestigious establishment in Paris.
Nestled in a 19th century building, the hotel is in a great location. Design and modernity, with a conceptual touch, all come together here. Its designer is in the best position to explain why, since we're not sure it's really clear otherwise, but the W Paris-Opera is centred around the theme The Spark. The establishment thus defines itself as a "spark", creating a fictitious connection between the very first W hotel in New York and its newest sibling in Paris.

At the heart of the Opera district, the W can already rely on its guests who are fans of the brand and hopes that word of mouth will make it the place to be in the area; not just for its rooms but for its restaurant and bar as well.
