    Location 6.6 /10

From the guest rooms overlooking the street below you can see the Arc de Triomphe, just a few metres away. The hotel is located on the Rue Mac Mahon, which is one of the streets running off the Place de l'Etoile, forming the famous star at the centre of which stands the impressive Arc. Heading from the Etoile along the Avenue des Champs-Elysées, a true institution for those who like luxury and shopping, will take you directly to the Place de la Concorde. The hotel is also well-located for using the metro station, with the nearest station, Charles de Gaulle-Etoile, served by lines 1, 2 and 6 of the metro system and line A of the RER network, just a few hundred metres away. If you're worried about getting to and from the airport, you'll be pleased to know that the Air France shuttle to Roissy-Charles de Gaulle stops right by the hotel, though the shuttle out to Orly stops only at the Invalides, so you will need to hop on the metro and change once to reach it.

    Accommodation 6.95 /10

The elegant staircase, its steps covered in a red carpet winding up between the light blue walls, can be used as an alternative to the lift to access the five floors of the hotel. There are 49 double rooms here (with either a double bed or two singles), some of which afford excellent views of the Arc de Triomphe whilst others overlook the inner courtyard, which is a far less exciting outlook but nevertheless very peaceful. Those lucky enough to be staying on the second and fifth floors, in keeping with the classical architecture of this Haussmannian building, will have the privilege of a balcony. The rooms themselves are not exactly huge (around 12m˛) but the dominant warmth of the yellow combined with the blue carpets make for traditional and rather humble surroundings. With the exception of a few specific details, such as the fruity embellishments on the light-fittings and mirrors, the furniture is pretty basic and the rooms well laid-out. Despite the less than generous dimensions of the rooms, you'll still find you have two bedside tables, a desk, a flat-screen television and a little table to put your cases on. You'll probably find the lack of a wardrobe something of a nuisance if you're staying here a while, though. The rooms are not all identical but they do share the same style which, despite its apparent lack of design and modernity, will soon have you feeling pretty much at home thanks to the classical, welcoming and unpretentious elegance. There's no hiding the fact that the bathrooms haven't been renovated for quite some time. Having said that, they are nevertheless functional and intact, though the outdated light brown tiles and a few other signs of ageing are a clear indication that they date back at least to the 80s.

    Overview 7.45 /10

The building housing the Cécilia dates back to 1896 when the Rue Mac Mahon became part of Baron Haussmann's urban renovation project. It was, in fact, this man who made the Paris we see today, with its long avenues lined with elegant buildings now referred to as 'Haussmannian'. However, this building has not always been a hotel. Before current owner Guy Heilbronn bought it in 1956 it was a private residence, as demonstrated by the minor details which tell the story of this over a hundred-year-old building, such as the bronze door, once used to allow coaches to enter. Inside the vast lobby you'll find a combination of different styles cleverly brought together to create an elegant and welcoming atmosphere. Valuable items such as the Virgin and Child, the ancient Norman wardrobe and the Venetian standard lamp alongside vaguely Oriental wooden sculptures and a stuffed tiger napping on the rug give the place a touch of exoticism and preciosity not unlike that of a magnificent country home. To be honest, that wouldn't be far from the truth, since most of the furniture has in fact been brought in from an old country residence. The owner of the hotel is personally responsible for the decor, with the help of a few French and Italian companies and tradesmen, and particular attention has been paid to the quality of the items used. All of the furniture has been at the hotel since 1956, apart from the piano, which was the only thing left behind by the former residents of the building. Nowadays it stands virtually permanently silent, but its presence might, perhaps, be seen to justify naming the hotel Cécilia, the patron saint of musicians.

    Food and drink

As is the case in all city hotels, there is neither a restaurant here nor is room service available. The bar, on the other hand, is open at all hours of the day and night and you can even have drinks brought up to your room between 7:00am and 8:00pm. Breakfast is served from 7:00am to 10:30am either in your room or in the breakfast room, which is furnished with a series of little round marble tables and chairs with padded seats and dark wooden backs, just like the two dressers positioned against the green walls. The style here, as is the case throughout the hotel, is very much reminiscent of 'a grandmother's house in the country', making for quaint and old-fashioned yet elegant and tasteful surroundings where you'll soon feel at home.

    To know

The Cécilia's major asset is its traditional style, popular among its quiet clientele who come here for the relaxed, homely atmosphere. This comes courtesy, too, of the friendly receptionists, of which there are always two, and the manageress, a charming and sophisticated lady who can often be found somewhere or other around the hotel.

The Bristol is one of the few luxury hotels in Paris that belongs to a European family (German) rather than one of the great families of Asia or the United Arab Emirates. Stylish, classy and refined, the Bristol holds great importance in the quality and authenticity of its features and materials. Its gourmet restaurant attracts a demanding clientele that is fond of excellent cuisine.

The George V is one of the most prestigious Parisian palaces in the city. You barely have to cross the threshold before realising you are entering a hotel in which luxury, perfection and indulgence are the name of the game. Boasting rooms fit for a princess, impressive lounges and a Michelin-starred restaurant, the George V ticks all the boxes when it comes to satisfying even the most demanding of guests. The interior designer Pierre Yves Rochon oversaw the complete refurbishment of the building in 1997, and has since then continued to make improvements to the decor in the 18th Century style.

The latest Parisian luxury hotel, the Shangri-La will seduce a demanding clientele that will know how to appreciate the richly ornate Empire style of this particular hotel. Nothing more can be said about the lengths taken to find the materials, designs, and other accessories that contribute to recreating the atmosphere of the 19th century, while at the same time offering the comfort and modernity of the 21st century. This extremely shiny and ornate Empire style may scare away some potential guests, however, it is still a real privilege to stay in this residence previously owned by a prince, the great nephew of Napoleon.

Inaugurated on 28 February 2012, the W Paris - Opera has finally opened in the City of Light. The Starwood brand linked to fashion and trends thus has its own prestigious establishment in Paris.
Nestled in a 19th century building, the hotel is in a great location. Design and modernity, with a conceptual touch, all come together here. Its designer is in the best position to explain why, since we're not sure it's really clear otherwise, but the W Paris-Opera is centred around the theme The Spark. The establishment thus defines itself as a "spark", creating a fictitious connection between the very first W hotel in New York and its newest sibling in Paris.

At the heart of the Opera district, the W can already rely on its guests who are fans of the brand and hopes that word of mouth will make it the place to be in the area; not just for its rooms but for its restaurant and bar as well.
