All about location, the De Lutèce is a great little hotel on the Saint Louis island right in the centre of Paris. A two minute walk away from Notre Dame and right on the Seine, this is definitely one place to try out when staying in the capital. It doesn't do lunch or dinner, but who wants to eat at a hotel when one has Paris to play with?

    Location 7.56 /10

The Lutèce Hotel is perfectly located at the heart of the capital right within the small exclusive community of the Island of Saint Louis, one of the two islands on the Seine. If you're looking for a village feel within a busy capital city, then this is it. Be charmed by the surrounding quaint boutiques and independent cafés and restaurants. The city's most trendy and must-see neighbourhoods such as the Marais and St Michel as well as the Notre Dame, are walking distance. Don't miss out on picnicking at the Seine quays with a view of Notre Dame - the best view is from the back; see the green figures of the apostles descend from the roof, surrounded by gargoyles.

    Accommodation 6.70 /10

The rooms at the Lutèce are a little more generous in size than at the Des 2 Iles Hotel. The decoration is very simple and again the rooms are very clean and have all the basics - old-generation televisions, telephone, a safe, mini-bar (non-alcoholic) and various television channels including BBC World and CNN. Towels are provided but do bring your own toiletries and the range is very basic. Some rooms have original wooden beams which give a little more character. There is no supplement for a folded bed for a child under 12 years old per room. Triple rooms are available at 230 Euros per night (£198); these rooms are very well laid out in a mezzanine style, creating more intimacy for all parties. The hotel rooms give out onto the winding streets of the Saint Louis Island or onto the internal courtyard. Although the décor isn't at the height of fashion, this hotel is all about location so the room prices range from 155 Euros (single) to 195 Euros (double) per night.

    Overview 6.70 /10

The décor here at the Lutèce is very different to that of the Des 2 Iles - it has been done up in a chalet style. Wooden panelling lines the walls, there are warm carpets across the floors and the large stone fireplace lets you imagine yourself curled up on the sofa in front of the roaring fir e, on a cold stormy winter's evening. The owner has made the most of the space, creating a pleasant area for customers to sit in the lobby, with unobtrusive lighting and curtains which help to create intimacy away from the proximity of the street. Through the lobby across the hall, you will find the breakfast room. A tiny quaint 'display' courtyard can be seen through the breakfast room windows which in a source of light and creates the illusion of space. It also brings a little outdoors inside. The stairwells are bare and relatively unattractive. They are however very clean.

    Food and drink 6.20 /10

A continental breakfast (7am-11am) is on offer but do specify when making your booking as most guests have breakfast in one of the charming little cafés on the island; there is no room service. Breakfast is served in the breakfast room downstairs in the basement. The breakfast usually includes various pastries, a selection of hams and cheeses, cereal, orange juice, tea and coffee.

    To know

The hotel building dates back to the 16th Century and the hotel has been open for 30 years along with the Des 2 Iles Hotel further down the street on the island, owned by the same proprietor as the Galiléo, in the 8th district, and the Henri IV , in the 5th district (see our other hotel profiles). The director is the same for all four hotels and is extremely accommodating and has high standards; he abides by the rule that ?the guest is king'. The hotel is open all year round. The hotel staff fetches the Figaro and International Herald Tribune newspapers every morning. There are also a number of magazines in the lobby, such as 'Where Magazine' which gives a few ideas of things to see and do in Paris. The staff speaks English and is very accommodating. The hotel clientele consists in couples, mainly from the United States and the UK. The clientele is a loyal one whom gets on with being out and about in Paris - very few people spend a lot of time at the hotel. Check in/out is at 12pm.

Yes, I agree with the previous post about the De Lutèce. Great location. It's what made me fall in love with Paris...I now live here!

      • Advantages

Location on the Ile Saint Louis right on the river. Great surroundings bars, shops, restaurants...friendly staff.

      • Disavantages

No real flair in the décor; a shame. Small rooms (but this is typical of Paris due to old structures).

This hotel is all about location. One of the few hotels on the Ile Saint Louis, it is a real privilege to stay in this area which is one of the most quintessential areas of Paris despite the hotel not being the most beautiful hotel in the city. The hotel is small and intimate and the staff is very friendly. The prices are fairly reasonable for the Ile Saint Louis and most sites are accessible on foot. Situated right on the Seine, with the Notre Dame just on the other side of the island and the Marais just five minutes away who could ask for more?

Stylish, classy and refined, the Bristol holds great importance in the quality and authenticity of its features and materials. Its gourmet restaurant attracts a demanding clientele that is fond of excellent cuisine.

The George V is one of the most prestigious Parisian palaces in the city. You barely have to cross the threshold before realising you are entering a hotel in which luxury, perfection and indulgence are the name of the game. Boasting rooms fit for a princess, impressive lounges and a Michelin-starred restaurant, the George V ticks all the boxes when it comes to satisfying even the most demanding of guests. The interior designer Pierre Yves Rochon oversaw the complete refurbishment of the building in 1997, and has since then continued to make improvements to the decor in the 18th Century style.

The latest Parisian luxury hotel, the Shangri-La will seduce a demanding clientele that will know how to appreciate the richly ornate Empire style of this particular hotel. Nothing more can be said about the lengths taken to find the materials, designs, and other accessories that contribute to recreating the atmosphere of the 19th century, while at the same time offering the comfort and modernity of the 21st century. This extremely shiny and ornate Empire style may scare away some potential guests, however, it is still a real privilege to stay in this residence previously owned by a prince, the great nephew of Napoleon.

Inaugurated on 28 February 2012, the W Paris - Opera has finally opened in the City of Light. The Starwood brand linked to fashion and trends thus has its own prestigious establishment in Paris.
Nestled in a 19th century building, the hotel is in a great location. Design and modernity, with a conceptual touch, all come together here. Its designer is in the best position to explain why, since we're not sure it's really clear otherwise, but the W Paris-Opera is centred around the theme The Spark. The establishment thus defines itself as a "spark", creating a fictitious connection between the very first W hotel in New York and its newest sibling in Paris.

At the heart of the Opera district, the W can already rely on its guests who are fans of the brand and hopes that word of mouth will make it the place to be in the area; not just for its rooms but for its restaurant and bar as well.
