This is a magnificent and prestigious 4-star hotel in which Second Empire decor prevails, although a few of the rooms are a bit more modern. It offers excellent services, and oozes class and refinement. It is also home to a fine brasserie with a mouth-watering menu created by a famous chef, and a bar that offers a particularly intimate and cosy setting.

    Location 9.0 /10

    17/20
The Hôtel du Louvre is located on Place André Malraux, right at the heart of historic Paris. Among its neighbours are the famous Louvre Museum, the Palais Royal and the Comédie Française theatre. Looking out of the front windows, the eye is inevitably drawn along Avenue de l'Opéra and up to Opéra Garnier at the end. Some of the suites enjoy this magnificent view. The hotel is close to metro lines 1, 7 and 14, so you have easy access to all of the most important parts of the city, including Bastille, the Champs Elysées, Place d'Italie and Gare du Nord station. The Hôtel du Louvre provides morning joggers with a map and a route to get their legs warmed up around the nearby streets and parks.

    Accommodation 7.75 /10

The Hôtel du Louvre has 177 guest rooms, including 44 suites and 133 beautiful, luxurious and spacious double rooms. All the rooms and suites are decorated differently but in the same classic and highly refined empire style in which warm, welcoming colours dominate. The rooms on the top floor are decorated in a more modern, contemporary fashion, and feature shades of plum and grey. Their sloping ceilings also provide them with extra charm. The rooms on the 3rd and 5th floors have balconies, from which the views are even better. One of the highlights of the hotel is the famous Pissarro suite. It is decorated in a very modern style with shades of grey and chocolate, and prints of the artist's paintings adorn the walls. It also has two bathrooms, one of which is provided with a hammam shower while the other has a jacuzzi and a picture window overlooking Avenue de l'Opéra. At night, the view from all the rooms overlooking this marvellous treeless avenue, with its perfect perspectives, is amazing. The whole hotel is the height of sophistication. All the guest rooms are provided with bathrobes, a mini-bar, high-quality hospitality products, free Wi-Fi internet access, very comfortable bedding and a safe.

    Overview 7.75 /10

The story of this building is interwoven with the history of Paris. It is swarming with little anecdotes and big stories. Built on the orders of Napoléon III during the Second Empire, it is a classic example of Haussmannian architecture, and opened in 1887 in order to welcome visitors to the Exposition Universelle held in 1889 in Paris. It was the first big Paris hotel to boast running water. Even fictional characters like Sherlock Holmes have stayed here, but real famous people have also walked its parquet floors and stayed in its rooms. For example, the Impressionist painter Camille Pissarro stayed here for several months in a room that has since been named in his honour, which also happens to be the best suite in the hotel. It was looking out of the windows of this room that he painted 'L'Avenue de l'Opéra' and other views of Paris in the different seasons. More recently, French director Mathieu Amalric filmed his film 'L'illusion comique' in this hotel. The hotel has a small gym, a restaurant and a bar. Features such as marble columns, fabric-covered Empire seats, a majestic staircase enveloping a splendid glass lift, gorgeous parquet flooring, thick carpets and noble furniture all combine to give a perfect blend of refinement and style.

    Food and drink 8.50 /10

The menu of the completely renovated 'Brasserie du Louvre' has a menu drawn up by the chef, Guy Martin. The decor brings to mind a very chic old-style brasserie, also displaying the classic hallmarks of such an eatery, like the tables aligned in cubicles and separated by wood and metal posts, and seating provided by wall seats. Needless to say, it is all very stylish and classy. Well-known people from the Comédie Française and French Ministry of Culture come here for their lunch. The terrace blooms with flowers in summer and is also open in winter. The menu combines different interesting flavours, for example sweet marinades, spicy dried fruit side dishes, and sweet-and-sour combinations. A pastry chef looks after the desserts. Breakfast is taken in the restaurant. There are two lunch menus, priced at ?32 and ?38 respectively. Inside the hotel, the bar, 'Le Defender', is a magnificently cosy, polished place with intimate low lighting. It is a small lounge area featuring shades of red and Napoléon III decor. At lunchtime and dinnertime, a snack menu is available here in case you feel peckish.

    To know

The bar, 'Le Defender', stages jazz concerts of an evening from Tuesday to Friday, and the price of drinks is increased on these nights as a result. This is a very stylish bar and is open to the general public.

Inaugurated on 28 February 2012, the W Paris - Opera has finally opened in the City of Light. The Starwood brand linked to fashion and trends thus has its own prestigious establishment in Paris.
Nestled in a 19th century building, the hotel is in a great location. Design and modernity, with a conceptual touch, all come together here. Its designer is in the best position to explain why, since we're not sure it's really clear otherwise, but the W Paris-Opera is centred around the theme The Spark. The establishment thus defines itself as a "spark", creating a fictitious connection between the very first W hotel in New York and its newest sibling in Paris.

At the heart of the Opera district, the W can already rely on its guests who are fans of the brand and hopes that word of mouth will make it the place to be in the area; not just for its rooms but for its restaurant and bar as well.
