Amy Adejokun Section editor

The George V is one of the most prestigious Parisian palaces in the city. You barely have to cross the threshold before realising you are entering a hotel in which luxury, perfection and indulgence are the name of the game. Boasting rooms fit for a princess, impressive lounges and a Michelin-starred restaurant, the George V ticks all the boxes when it comes to satisfying even the most demanding of guests. The interior designer Pierre Yves Rochon oversaw the complete refurbishment of the building in 1997, and has since then continued to make improvements to the decor in the 18th Century style.

    Location 8.0 /10

The George V is located in a street branching off the nearby Champs-Élysées. There are several metro stations in the vicinity, and the hotel has a valet parking service. The hotel's employees also prove adept when it comes to hailing a taxi, which is not always an easy task.

    Accommodation 9.70 /10

The George V has 245 guest rooms, 59 of which are suites. The interior design is extremely refined, not only in the suites but in the standard rooms as well. Every last detail of the neoclassical decor is carefully considered to satisfy even the most demanding of guests, with precious fabrics, antique lamps, historical lithographs and a bathroom to die for. The guest rooms overlook either the street or the courtyard, and some extend out onto a spacious terrace with impressive views. The beds are very comfortable, and the bathrooms are provided with bathrobes, slippers, Bulgari hospitality products, a hair-dryer, etc. The toilets are in a separate room.

    Overview 9.70 /10

The facilities here are impressive. The hotel has two restaurants: La Gallerie, which prepares light meals, and the Le Cinq restaurant (two Michelin stars), in which lunch and dinner can be enjoyed in a rather unique setting. In the summer, the terrace of Le Cinq is one of the most sought after in Paris. The George V has one of the most luxurious spas in Paris. It measures no less than 800m², and is one part of the hotel open only to the hotel's guests (there are no external members). The decor takes you back to the 18th Century, and it doesn't take long to realise that this style is a real treat to behold. There is an impressive range of body treatments on offer, and these are administered by staff with specific qualifications in this area. Guests also have the use of a gym furnished with machines and all the latest sports technologies.
Finally, there is a shop where you can buy anything you may have forgotten to pack or souvenirs of Paris to take home with you.

    Food and drink 9.70 /10

The George V has two eating options, the first of which is to book a table at the Le Cinq restaurant, which is overseen by the famous French chef Éric Briffard. This is the most prestigious part of the hotel. It is decorated entirely in the 18th Century style, and the refined quality of the dishes and the level of service are quite out of the ordinary. The second option is the more formal La Gallerie. This is the hotel's best spot for people-watching, because guests have to walk past here as they make their way to the restaurant. La Gallerie serves light dishes from 3:00pm onwards with a pianist to provide the background music.

    To know

The hotel takes particularly good care of children staying here. A member of staff with a degree in education helps keep them occupied, by taking them on visits to the hotel basement or conducting cake-making workshops for example. There is even a special welcome tray designed just for them, and the hotel has also produced a brochure about Paris for them so that they can find out about the city without having to rely on their parents' guide books. Children under the age of 3 stay for free, and if they are older but still sleeping in their parents' room, an additional charge of ?80 applies. Guests can hire a legendary Rolls Royce Phantom designed especially by Hermès. Guests staying in the presidential suite also have the use of a Mini Cooper to help make their outings in Paris as pleasant as possible.

The Prince de Galles is in a great location a five minute walk from the Champs Elysées. The luxury hotel is simple in its décor and lacks a little character. The hotel is ideal for guests looking to be left to themselves. The rooms are extremely comfortable and the comfortable beds 'pull' guests towards their mounds of cushions and soft linens!

This is an ideal solution for families with young children who are looking for home-comforts on holiday. The concept behind these fully-equipped apartments is all the more appreciated for long stays. However, some of the apartments could be deemed as lacking in character. Nevertheless, they are regularly repainted and renovated.

This is a hotel full of French style in which no copies or reproductions will be tolerated. The Bristol is one of the few luxury hotels in Paris that belongs to a European family (German) rather than one of the great families of Asia or the United Arab Emirates. Stylish, classy and refined, the Bristol holds great importance in the quality and authenticity of its features and materials. Its gourmet restaurant attracts a demanding clientele that is fond of excellent cuisine.

The latest Parisian luxury hotel, the Shangri-La will seduce a demanding clientele that will know how to appreciate the richly ornate Empire style of this particular hotel. Nothing more can be said about the lengths taken to find the materials, designs, and other accessories that contribute to recreating the atmosphere of the 19th century, while at the same time offering the comfort and modernity of the 21st century. This extremely shiny and ornate Empire style may scare away some potential guests, however, it is still a real privilege to stay in this residence previously owned by a prince, the great nephew of Napoleon.

Inaugurated on 28 February 2012, the W Paris - Opera has finally opened in the City of Light. The Starwood brand linked to fashion and trends thus has its own prestigious establishment in Paris.
Nestled in a 19th century building, the hotel is in a great location. Design and modernity, with a conceptual touch, all come together here. Its designer is in the best position to explain why, since we're not sure it's really clear otherwise, but the W Paris-Opera is centred around the theme The Spark. The establishment thus defines itself as a "spark", creating a fictitious connection between the very first W hotel in New York and its newest sibling in Paris.

At the heart of the Opera district, the W can already rely on its guests who are fans of the brand and hopes that word of mouth will make it the place to be in the area; not just for its rooms but for its restaurant and bar as well.
