In a great location, five minutes away from the Seine and Notre Dame Cathedral, the Henri IV is a lovely quiet little hotel which is well decorated and very clean. The staff is very friendly. A good choice for all guests, from groups of friends to families to couples.

    Location 8.66 /10

Its renovated 17th Century neat dark green façade reflects the pretty, clean and tidy interior of the hotel and is not to be confused with another hotel by the same name. On a calm street with various shops, restaurants and take-aways to suit all budgets. Located just across the road from the charming St Sévrin Church and two steps away from the bustling St Michel area, the Henri IV hotel is right in the heart of Paris. A short walk to the quaint and lively Sorbonne area and you will find the Cluny-La Sorbonne metro station (line 10) on the famous Boulevard St Germain and the pretty Jardin de Luxembourg just beyond. The hotel is also a few minutes' walk from the Seine and the Ile de la Cité, where the Cathedral of Notre Dame stands tall and proud.

    Accommodation 7.20 /10

For the room with the best view (and it is a great view!) ask for room 402.There are several triple rooms with different levels which again helps create intimacy and space. The triple rooms are extremely spacious and very pleasant. A few rooms (including the triple rooms) also have a small balcony with a view onto the glass roof of an office, which is practical if you are a smoker as the hotel is non-smoking. The rooms are about the same size as the Lutèce Hotel and the décor is extremely simple. The colours scheme consists of terracotta shades, creams and beiges. The rooms are clean and have all the basics - old-generation televisions, telephone, a safe, mini-bar (non-alcoholic) and various television channels including BBC World and CNN. Towels are provided but do bring your own toiletries and the range is very basic.

    Overview 7.20 /10

The hotel is immaculate. Extremely neat, clean and tidy. The colours used are fresh tones of greens throughout the exterior and interior lobby. The owner has made the most of the lobby space by putting in two sitting rooms spaces which are cosy due to the good quality furniture used and the unobtrusive low lighting. Adding a little charm to the new-build, are original 16th Century tile frescos on display. The owner has insisted on separating the space as much as possible in order to create intimacy and this has been done discreetly and works well. To the back of the lobby you will find a spacious and airy breakfast room.

    Food and drink

A continental breakfast (7am-11am) is on offer but do specify when making your booking as most guests have breakfast in one of the charming little cafés on the island; there is no room service. Breakfast is served in the breakfast room downstairs in the basement. The breakfast usually includes various pastries, a selection of hams and cheeses, cereal, orange juice, tea and coffee. However, differently to the Lutèce and the Des 2 Iles, you can ask to have your breakfast taken up to your room, as long as you give the hotel a day's notice.

    To know

The hotel is owned by the same proprietor as the Lutèce and Des 2 Iles on the Ile Saint Louis in the 4th district of Paris, and the Galiléo, in the 8th district (see our other hotel profiles). The director is the same for all four hotels and is extremely accommodating and has high standards; he abides by the rule that ?the guest is king'. The Henri IV is the newest addition to the ?mini-chain' and has been open for eight years. The hotel is open all year round. The hotel staff fetches the Figaro and International Herald Tribune newspapers every morning and any other paper at the client's request. There are also a number of magazines in the lobby, such as ?Where Magazine' which gives a few ideas of things to see and do in Paris. The staff speaks English and is very accommodating. The hotel clientele consists of couples, mainly from the United States and the UK, although here you will find slightly more diverse guests (Italians and Japanese are particularly fond of the Henri IV). The clientele is a loyal one whom gets on with being out and about in Paris - very few people spend a lot of time at the hotel. For the room with the best view (and it is a great view!) ask for room 402. The Henri IV also has two rooms for wheelchair access. Check in/out is at 12pm.

This is one of three Parisian hotels decorated by Christian Lacroix. His bold use of colours and materials results in an extravagant style of decor that is dazzling to the eye and filling curious visitors with wonder. The smooth materials and trompe l'œils, velvets and carpeting and dynamic colours leave you in no doubt that a great imagination has been at work.

The first thing that springs to mind when describing the Best Western Saint-Michel is its very central location. It stands opposite the famous fountain in the city's Latin Quarter, a historic meeting place for Parisian students, among others, and is part of the Best Western chain's 'Premier' collection, so you're guaranteed high-quality service here. It certainly does what it says on the tin, too, offering pleasant yet rather unoriginal guest rooms. The Royal Saint-Michel is also ideally-located for those visiting Paris for the first (or even the second, third...) time, particularly if you are prepared to pay a little more without stretching as far as the prices charged by other hotels in this part of the city.

This is a hotel full of French style in which no copies or reproductions will be tolerated. The Bristol is one of the few luxury hotels in Paris that belongs to a European family (German) rather than one of the great families of Asia or the United Arab Emirates. Stylish, classy and refined, the Bristol holds great importance in the quality and authenticity of its features and materials. Its gourmet restaurant attracts a demanding clientele that is fond of excellent cuisine.

The George V is one of the most prestigious Parisian palaces in the city. You barely have to cross the threshold before realising you are entering a hotel in which luxury, perfection and indulgence are the name of the game. Boasting rooms fit for a princess, impressive lounges and a Michelin-starred restaurant, the George V ticks all the boxes when it comes to satisfying even the most demanding of guests. The interior designer Pierre Yves Rochon oversaw the complete refurbishment of the building in 1997, and has since then continued to make improvements to the decor in the 18th Century style.

The latest Parisian luxury hotel, the Shangri-La will seduce a demanding clientele that will know how to appreciate the richly ornate Empire style of this particular hotel. Nothing more can be said about the lengths taken to find the materials, designs, and other accessories that contribute to recreating the atmosphere of the 19th century, while at the same time offering the comfort and modernity of the 21st century. This extremely shiny and ornate Empire style may scare away some potential guests, however, it is still a real privilege to stay in this residence previously owned by a prince, the great nephew of Napoleon.

Inaugurated on 28 February 2012, the W Paris - Opera has finally opened in the City of Light. The Starwood brand linked to fashion and trends thus has its own prestigious establishment in Paris.
Nestled in a 19th century building, the hotel is in a great location. Design and modernity, with a conceptual touch, all come together here. Its designer is in the best position to explain why, since we're not sure it's really clear otherwise, but the W Paris-Opera is centred around the theme The Spark. The establishment thus defines itself as a "spark", creating a fictitious connection between the very first W hotel in New York and its newest sibling in Paris.

At the heart of the Opera district, the W can already rely on its guests who are fans of the brand and hopes that word of mouth will make it the place to be in the area; not just for its rooms but for its restaurant and bar as well.
